Christianch reviews the Omega Seamaster 300 "Spectre" limited edition, offering a unique perspective beyond typical watch reviews. He delves into the emotional connection between watches, dreams, and the James Bond fantasy, exploring how marketing influences desire and the practical considerations of integrating a new timepiece into a collection.

This is not the first review of this watch in this forum so I will try to give you some different views on the watch and the reason why I got so excited about it and
I was impatiently waiting for the watch that arrived at my AD today.

In reading several reviews of fellow watch enthusiast -- and sharing mines -- I always try to understand the reasons behind a purchase and what makes a watch special.
I am even more intrigued in watching other collections grow and sometimes sensing the objective struggle to add another piece to the collection.

What's next? Will this new watch get enough wrist time? How does this new piece will fit in my collection ? are some of the common questions that transpire in many posts.

I think that watches are very much connect to dreams and fantasies. Admittedly the daily business and work life is often turning into a predictable routine so I think that --
to some degree -- a watch is a way to escape to different era or simply live a dream (e.g. even Patek Philippe couldn't resit and launched a pilot watch).

In terms of dreams, adventure and lifestyle few things are more exciting than 007: James Bond:

As you can see from this photo everything looks so perfect: the car, the suit and in this case the unusual watch (not so unusual for the previous versions
of James Bond but a first from the current James Bond).

I came across the new Omega Seamaster 300 "Spectre" a few days ago.  Last week end the omega 1 page ad in a local newspaper
reminded me that James Bond had a new watch:

Marketing didn't stop to a few ads here and there as it is in full force at the airport:  this morning a friend of mine send me some photos
to alert  me that both the departure display and airport were under siege by Omega and James Bond!

007 logo well visible in this new omega shop just in the middle of the airport hall

and -- of course -- the watch on display

A few hours later I received a call from my AD where, a few days ago and encouraged by other reviews, I reserved the watch: one piece has just arrived and was waiting for me.

Should I succumb to the marketing and get the Omega Seamaster 300 "Spectre"  ?

Back to the dreams story: the astute collectors know very well that this is "just marketing". But is this really James Bond's choice as proclaimed in the Omega advertisement ?

In the dream world of fabulous watches it might well be. This special edition of the Omega seamaster sports a nato band that the 007 aficionados will recall from an older movie
on a rolex. The strap itself makes the watch sporty and very much Bond.

But the look is not everything: the seamster is powered by the omega master co-axial calibre 8400 with several innovative features like magnetic fields resistance up to 15,000 gauss, silicon balance
spring, two barrels and 60 hours powers reserve.

This Spectre edition has also a second time zone (through the rotating bezel) and a "lollipop" central seconds hands. Both features and the strap makes the watch different from the regular collection.

The box  (as previously shown in other reviews) opens with the 007 code: very clever and a fantastic display for the watch

As you can see the friendly AD was also dressed impeccably and seemed to be just out of a 007 movie!

Sorry for the bad lighting but we immediately removed the sticked. Always love when a watch has just arrived at an AD and is absolutely pristine!

In a smaller wrist like mine the nato strap might result a bit too long and I don't think that these straps are available in multiple sizes so a small trick can still make it fit pretty fine:

By folding the strap a bit it is still very wearable and very much James Bond smile

Here finally in my office without stickers etc.

The watch is ready for a new adventure !!

Despite the fact that I am huge James Bond fan (mostly of the current one from Casino Royale onward) I was never attracted by other 007 limited editions. Often these watches
were not so innovative and the look and feel of these watches was not that attractive. There wasn't any dream or strong story to support it so in a way they lacked character.

The Omega Seamaster 300 "Spectre" has several strong points: a unique character, a second time zone, a very vintage and "bond" look and feel and a very innovative Omega
co-axial movement.  It has a good story and somehow works very well in business too: who doesn't like to think of yet another working day as a mission or adventure?

Perhaps just for few minutes -- or seconds marked by the "lollipop" central seconds hand -- this watch can take the owner to the exotic, exciting and mysterious world of James Bond.

This watch deserves to be "James Bond's choice" !!
Well done Omega!

Christian

Bravo!!! Christian, that was quick poison...

hopefully not from me ) I agree this watch does have a special character and charisma. The built and quality of Omega and its movements has won me over with this piece. I managed to take a photo with my "Ex" before she's gone and just swapped the NATO last night to the bracelet. Timing wasn't perfect, otherwise I'll be driving her to the Tea reception and movie preview by Omega 2 weeks later. The bracelet with the watch is quite heavy so I will be wearing the NATO Most of the time. Congratulatio

thank you Raymond! gorgeous car and yes you are...

partially responsible with not only your nice photos but your very cool LE number but only partially as I feel in deep love with this watch -- not just the look but also the great movement and innovation of Omega. Thanks also for your gorgeous car photos ..it would have been a great fit for the premiere but at least the watch will be with you!! From your photo sit looks like you also tuck the end of the strap as I did in mine..so it it too long for you too ? It still looks great and I agree that

The Nato strap quality is really good, imho...

and the end it is not too long, just fine. This is also my first watch with Nato and I like it so maybe I'll be like you, ordering some more. When you swap the Nato to bracelet, be careful as the pins will fly off because I'm too afraid to scratch the watch, and it might cause a small ding to the lugs, better leave it to the AD. You are on a roll with so many great timepieces recently. Enjoy this new..est one. HAGWE. Rgds Raymond

you are right...

that I had several incoming lately but I am very happy about this omega and discovering such a wonderful watch at a relatively more affordable price range. Thanks for the hint re: changing the strap to the steel bracelet. I don't think that I will switch but will try to order some extra nato straps in case that omega will stop providing them in the future Great quality and amazing how much a strap changes the watch...

Don't you regret your Aston, now that you have the " Spectre "? ;) [nt]

Sigh...yes and no, it was a difficult decision but

A practical and logical one. Well, who knows when an Aston dealer opens nearby, I might get one again because I won't sell my watch. Rgds Raymond
