i took this in trade for a watch i was selling. i'm getting 2 watches so the deals good already.

at first look its just a boring 14kt gold filled Seamaster Deville

nice dial, you can just see on the pictures the faint diamond cross hatch markings

is that a scratch on the plexi or an Omega logo?

one improvement is that it has a 560 calibre so one of the 3000 and my 3rd 560.

turn it over and what do we see ? its a Kleerback. very very big improvement and very uncommon.

icing on the cake, its a 1964 seamaster deville kleerback. things get better and better.

you can just see that its adjusted to 2 positions. not all 560's were adjusted so its even more uncommon.

you can see clearly that its an original model and not a retro fit as they would had to have cut the case to insert the plexi. no sign of butchering on this one. even better.

obligatory wrist shot.

this could possibly one of the rarest watches in my collection. when we look at the figures.

we know catagorically that there were only 3000 560 calibres made.

how many of these were adjusted movements ??

Hans had found 10 different models of watch with the movement=300 each.

Norman Morris had kleerbacks made for his salesmen so that the dealers could see the movement in action. bear in mind that this was the first Omega monocoque case and the dealers were used to taking the back off to look at the movement, something you couldnt do with an SM deville.

the question is 'how many salesmen were there and how many kleerbacks were made?'

there are several blogs out there on the Interweb. Desmonds is probably the most comprehensive. he thinks there could be 200 made, Hans thinks there are 12. a big difference, but what is the answer and will we ever know?

all i know is that i have just aquired a very nice condition and rare Omega to add to my collection. i would have had it even if it wasnt from 1964, that is just the cherry on the top of the icing on this great cake.

enjoy guys

Its my pleasure Jon. If it had been a standard SM deville i would have passed on it as i have a steel cased one from 1964. But this watch is a must for any Omega fan. I'm now waiting for Hans to pass on his knowledge of these pieces. He is the only other person i know who has one. Best Graham
