MTF introduces the Omega Seamaster Diver 300m 'James Bond 007 Collector’s Piece,' highlighting its evolution from previous Bond watches. This post delves into the design changes, particularly the shift to a polished, lacquered black dial and black gold plated elements, aiming for a more elegant aesthetic for the iconic spy.

Oh  -  be still my beating heart;  The 'James Bond 007 Collector’s Piece' is back . . . . . . . . in black!

OMEGA have ramped up the promotion of the new version of the Seamaster Diver 300m James Bond, which collectors and fans have treasured since 1995.

For the past decade, Her Majesty’s Secret Service agent 007 has been wearing an OMEGA Seamaster watch.   The folks in Bienne are now hoping that fans of the iconic spy, along with enthusiasts of fine watches, will be waiting in anticipation of the new version of the timepiece. OMEGA will be releasing a special update of the Seamaster Diver 300m James Bond watch which has been worn by Movie Agent 007 since GOLDENEYE . Some fans have thought the current version too "rough" and chunky for a tuxedo-clad gentleman so the 'James Bond 007 Collector’s Piece' is the most elegant version yet and the next step in the evolution of the Seamaster Diver 300m James Bond watches.

Anyone familiar with the classic James Bond’s watch with its trademark blue bezel will be in for some surprises!
The new watch features a polished, lacquered black dial with black gold plated hour markers filled with white Super-LumiNova. The luminous hour and minute hands are also plated with black gold.  The watch has a central seconds hand with a red tip and a red “007” logo as a counterweight which rotates in stark contrast to its black dial.

It is hard to accept the descriptor "limited edition" as 10,007 pieces of this model will be produced. No doubt, with the world’s favourite secret agent, it is destined to be an instant collector’s item. The watch has a distinctive polished and brushed stainless steel case with a diameter of 41 mm.  Its specially-designed bracelet is unique to the James Bond watches and is one of the features that watch-geeks use to recognise them.   The watch has a scratch-resistant, anti-reflective domed sapphire crystal. It features OMEGA’s calibre 2500 self-winding movement (Co-Axial Escapement), that is claimed to reduce friction while offering better long-term accuracy, and a power reserve of 48 hours. The free-sprung balance is claimed to further improve precision.

The watch is a certified chronometer with functions essential to professional divers.  Its screw-in case back (with a “007” medallion) and stainless steel screw-in crown featuring an OMEGA logo ensure water resistance.  I guess any logo on the crown would still offer "water resistance' but it's nice that it is an OMEGA one! The watch also has a unidirectional rotating bezel with a distinctive black aluminium ring.  A helium escape valve allows helium to escape during decompression, particularly necessary for professional divers operating from diving bells; the watch is water resistant up to 300 metres.

The newest film, Quantum Of Solace, produced by Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for EON Productions and directed by Marc Forster, will be released internationally in November 2008.  Daniel Craig will reprise his role as James Bond for this 22nd film in the Bond series.

The watches will be available from August 2008 so Bond fans can wear their watches to the movie.......

About the Omega Ref. Diver300M

The Seamaster Diver 300M is a core offering within Omega's contemporary sports watch collection, recognized for its robust construction and technical specifications. This particular reference maintains the established design language of the Diver 300M series, characterized by its distinctive wave-patterned dial and helium escape valve, positioning it as a capable and recognizable diver's watch within the brand's extensive catalog. It represents a modern iteration that continues the line's design evolution.

This model features a stainless steel case, typically measuring 42 mm in diameter, which houses a self-winding mechanical movement. The movement, often a Co-Axial Master Chronometer caliber, provides a substantial power reserve and is visible through a sapphire crystal case back. A domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides protects the dial, ensuring legibility in various conditions. The watch is engineered for significant water resistance, suitable for professional diving.

For collectors, the Seamaster Diver 300M appeals to those seeking a technically advanced and durable timepiece from a major Swiss manufacturer. Its availability in various dial colors, including black and steel, offers choices for different preferences. The consistent updates to its movement technology and material science ensure its relevance in the competitive landscape of luxury dive watches, making it a staple for both new and established collectors.

PuristSPro All-Black Rescue : perhaps without the cachet of James Bond but functionally very black indeed.........also very dark humour ! And it is really a limited edition of only 178 pieces! Prototype PPro ABR Before all the changes implemented for the final version. To be revealed soon after the quiz: "What changes do you think the PPro ABR will have?"........ But I just can't get exceited about these. The whole Bond association has been overplayed in my opinion. How many more special editions that aren't worn in the films do we need?

wouldn't it be even better with a PVD case to match? or have i jumped off the deep-end again? perhaps someone can photoshop a suitable example?
