This article delves into the authenticity and provenance of a 'tropical' dial Speedmaster that achieved a record-breaking price at auction, prompting a vital discussion among collectors about transparency and ethics in the vintage watch market. Julian's post serves as a crucial alert, encouraging the community to scrutinize high-profile sales and the narratives surrounding them.

The Omega CK2998 is a chronograph model recognized for its robust design and functional aesthetic. It belongs to a lineage of chronographs that established a distinct visual identity for the brand, characterized by a clear and legible dial layout. This reference is notable for its early adoption of a tachymeter scale on the bezel, a feature that would become a hallmark of many subsequent sports chronographs.
This reference features a 39 mm stainless steel case, housing the manual-winding Caliber 321. This movement provides a power reserve of 45 hours. The watch is fitted with a Hesalite crystal and offers a water resistance of 60 meters. The fixed tachymeter bezel is a key design element, framing a black dial.
The CK2998 holds interest for collectors seeking early examples of Omega's chronograph development. Its design elements, including the case proportions and dial configuration, represent a significant period in the brand's history. The presence of the Caliber 321 further enhances its appeal among enthusiasts of vintage chronograph movements.

And whom fed those stories? Who poured the poison down that person's ear? Well, we don't know who the poisoner is, but this article does suggest that some sort of poison was being poured. Did the Chinese fella actually pay 3 million CHF? Or was it all orchestrated for the shock value (and the PR value)? An
It may be the company spending that to get Aura of value... It may be "seller" making laundry... As I said on a different occasion, don't trust what you read from these professional selling conglomerates...... And J is doing great job!
We will see on BBC's site as internationally wanted or something like that.
Interested to know the response of auction house, which will significantly affect their credibility. In fact, coincidentally they will have a tropical dial PP5035 in the coming Geneva auction next month.
I understand why they are at auctions and bidding, but I donβt understand why they would get involved in a lot like this that was so questionable. If they won, would they have displayed this watch or just thrown it in a drawer?
I have zero desire to ever buy a vintage watch at auction.
