Datograph shares the exciting journey of acquiring his first widely recognized luxury watch, an Omega Speedmaster. He reflects on his evolution as a collector, moving from micro-brands to appreciating iconic pieces for their intrinsic value rather than just market trends. This post celebrates a significant milestone in his watch collecting path and invites community engagement on his choice.

Okay, it’s not my first watch by luxury means, but it’s the first one which is widely known for being a luxury watch.

When I was getting into watches in early 2016, I already dumped a huge amount of money in a micro-brand watch… yes, I was still really green behind the ears, so I developed a love-hate-relationship to this watch over the time as I learned what I could've bought instead.

After I finished my apprenticeship recently, it was time to purchase a new watch for me.

Originally I wanted a Daytona first but then I realized I’m more like the type of person that doesn’t want to be a bandwagon – over the time I learned to appreciate models from almost every manufacturer and not just the usual suspects that holding value best. Actually, the Speedmaster is still mainstream but you may get the point.

My next gem will date back either from 1975, 1994 or 1996, depending on how my mood and money is.

Greetings,

Steven

And great choice to have a 'std' Speedie as a reward. It sits well in any collection and even better with your personal story. One not to sell. My grandmother always advised to dispose of one's disasters swiftly and quietly move on. That Resco can be ebayed and you could get a good diver/sports watch instead. A diver and a chrono, a good two watch combo while you ponder your collecting strategy. In the meantime, wear the daylights out of that Speedie. Velociphile

How did you find about Resco and why did you wanted it and ended up buying one? I wouldn't care too much in the end, looking at value or not. You let your heart decide. Can't be bad.

And strap is better than bracelet on this one.

I noticed this watch and found it on watchesinmovies – I really liked it (and as you said I let my heart decide), I still do sometimes. I don't care about value at all, it's more that it has no reasonable image and not a very innovative design.

Wise words from your grandmother. At the moment, I will probably keep it and wait for a Fifty Fathoms in 40mm and then I'm going to sell it. But hell yes, I will wear the hell out of my Speedy, such a versatile watch.
