Wаtch's recent acquisition of an Omega Seamaster, believed to be a quartz model from the late 1980s, sparks a crucial discussion on authenticity within the collector community. His post, seeking verification for a 'steal' of a find, highlights the ongoing challenge of identifying genuine vintage and neo-vintage Omega watches, especially without immediate access to movement details. The community's response underscores the importance of subtle visual cues and historical context in authentication.

I was able to get this for a steal, pretty sure it’s real but always like to make sure. I don’t have any pictures of the movement yet but it is quartz. Let me know what you guys think, thanks! The serial number seems to check out. Would you need to see the movement to be 100% sure? Thanks.

Certainly looks like the reference number suggested but, to me, my immediate impression is it’s a knock off. Just an overall quality look, the bezel for example, seems like the notches are more blunted than an original. Oops, Andy posted while I was writing haha 😂 so pointer hands are possible. Still, I’m not convinced it’s legit at this point.

I’ll get another look and not feel so lonesome because no one has posted a wrist shot yet 😂

has a slightly different reference afaik. I don’t think the hands alone change the reference. Those with automatic on the dial have mechanical movements, those with professional are quartz. In the era of their production, I don’t think quartz was particularly looked down upon. Possibly the opposite in fact. There are some good video reviews out there but I no longer have the links as I watched them quite a while ago 👊
