Lankysudanese's original post challenges the prevailing narrative in luxury watches by making a compelling case for Omega's current offerings. Prompted by personal experiences with Rolex servicing and a perceived dismissal of Omega, Lankysudanese meticulously details how Omega's catalogue, from materials to complications and chronometry, presents a formidable argument for its superiority. This article explores the community's response to his detailed comparison, highlighting key insights into Omega's evolution and market position.

My recent poor experience with Rolex watches and Rolex servicing (see post on Rolex forum if you aren’t put off by bad customer service) and the off-hand comparison of omega watches to “5 dollar plastic watches” by the Rolex service center watchmaker, along with my own personal complete satisfaction with my omega speedmaster got me thinking: if one were to objectively compare the two manufacturers, wouldn’t omega actually come out on top just based on the current offerings? The breadth and depth of the current omega catalogue far outstrips that of Rolex, in my opinion, based on the materials used, complications offered, chronometry (with independent certification by COSC and METAS) as well as history. And that is without I evening mentioning any timepiece with the words  moon/Apollo/snoopy etc in the examples used

Please indulge me as I expand further, with some examples

Hand-crafted and historically-iconic chronograph: 321 speedmaster

Exotic materials: aqua terra “ultra-light” and seamaster diver chronograph with titanium-tantalum-gold

Relatively affordable fun complications: aqua terra world timer

Upper echelon haute horologie: deville Tourbillion

Affordable double-chronometer-certified one-watch-collection type watches: Seamaster diver 300 and Seamaster 1948

My sincere apologies for the modem-burning screenshots and lack of brevity, but I believe that I make a good argument.

No offense to any die-hard Rolex fans.

Add the ultra ridiculous price into the equation and you have a cheap looking expensive watch.

But the point is bigger than Rolex alone...while I think Omega is undervalued (but catching up VERY quickly) it is galling when certain (not Rolex actually) brands get away with sub standard products with excuses like”they are hand made”, “don’t look to close” or “what’s the big deal?”...the whole point of the price premium IS the quality!! Customers absolutely should hold these brands accountable for any flaws that can be observed without a microscope ie. If you see it through a lupe so can / s

Of all the top tier brands brands; they are the only one to not offer exhibition backs. They don’t do the exotic finishing that we have come to expect from fine watchmakers!
