Amanico presents a comprehensive overview of the Panerai Daylight Slytech, highlighting its significance as the only pre-Vendôme white-dialed watch and the progenitor of later references. This post delves into the history of the Slytech family, exploring their unique characteristics, limited production numbers, and the intriguing story behind the rare blue-indexed dials.
The Daylight Slytech...
This watch deserves a quick post.
This is the only pre vendome White Dialed watch, the "mother" of the Vendome Pam 3, and the grand mother of the Pam 113...
This watch belongs to the Family of the slytech watches, which are:
The Submersible Slytech ref 5218-205/A ( 95 pieces)
The Mare Nostrum Slytech Graduate Bezel ref 5218-302 ( 32 pieces and 18 given or sold to Vendome Cartier ):
The Mare Nostrum Slytech Smooth Bezel ref 5218-304 ( 31 pieces and 19 given or sold to Vendome Cartier ) :
And one last, which was ordered by Panerai pre vendome but not sold by them as Panerai pre v was bought by Cartier Vendome, the Black Seal Slytech, ref 5218-218/A:
Back to the Daylight slytech, this watch was produced in 1996 in 105 pieces.
You will notice that, if you compare it to the Pam 3, there is something different on the dial, except, of course, the writing " Daylight slytech"...
The Graduation of the indexes " 5 10 15...55 ".
There was a version with blue indexes, and a story behind it...
When Sly ordered to Panerai some special watches, the Slytech watches, he ordered one with a whiate dial...
Panerai sent him a white dialed watch, but blue indexes, and Sly was not happy with, and asked to Panerai to change the dial for black indexes...
So Panerai changed the dials, and now there are 7 to 12 white dials/ Blue indexes which remain.
Maybe some gurus here can tell us what happened with these dials.
So the normal version of the Slytech Daylight is this one, the black indexes.
The movement, as the other pre v Luminor watches is an Unitas, reliable, accurate too.
The watch was one of Sly's favourite one.
It really has an incredible and very special look.
1st, it comes in this very special pre v LE box...
Then, the watch has sompething special, brutal and vestial, but also elegant:
The subtile touch of the tritium hands and very small indexes adds some beauty to this watch, and some warm aspect, too...
Daylight, well called due to its white dial, very difficult to take in pic:
Well called when you this this pic, with a strange light, fascinating...
When you see the case back, you'll notice that Panerai at this moment was a bit optimistic...They planned to produce 200 pieces, they finally made 105...
You'll also notice that the case back bears Sly signature, and that the part where is engraved the SL number is particular to this watch, in a lilltle rectangle..
On the wrist, as each Luminor Panerai 44mm watch, a pleasure in temrs of comfort and esthetic...
Indeed, a true Pre Vendome Panerai watch...
Hope you'll enjoy this post, and this watch.
Best to All.
And as always thanks to the gurus who teached me all the Panerai stuff: Y.O, and D.G.

It is notable as the sole white-dialed watch produced before the Vendome acquisition, serving as a precursor to later white-dial Luminor models such as the PAM003 and PAM113. This reference is part of the broader Slytech family of watches, which includes several limited-production models from the 1990s. Its distinct dial color sets it apart from the more common black-dial Luminor offerings of its period.
This particular reference features a 40mm case crafted from polished white gold, complemented by a polished white gold bezel. The watch is equipped with the Calibre OP V, a self-winding mechanical movement. A 3.7mm sapphire crystal protects the dial, and the watch offers a water resistance of 200 meters. The timepiece is fitted with an alligator strap, consistent with the luxury materials used throughout its construction.
Produced in 1996 in a limited series of 105 pieces, the PAM105 appeals to collectors seeking rare pre-Vendome Panerai references, particularly those interested in the brand's experimental designs and limited editions. Its connection to the Slytech series and its status as the first white-dial pre-Vendome Panerai make it a significant piece for understanding the brand's evolution prior to its mainstream success. It represents a specific moment in Panerai's history, bridging its earlier military instrument production with its later luxury watch offerings.
I can't tell you how much I've learned from you these past few months Thanks, -David

all this info is sometimes mind blowing, but fascinating...:o) Did Sly Stallone ask Panerai for a watch named after him or did Panerai ask Sly..?? Just curious. Andy.
Nico, don't you think it's a bit dangerous to go on a Daylight Slytech with the blue indexes? I was told that the dials were kept by Panerai and weren't put on the Daylight slytech, once Sly refused them... Thanks, Nicolas Patrice. This message has been edited by amanico on 2008-03-12 14:30:41
