GWIS, a self-professed non-Paneristi, brings to light the Panerai Luminor Perpetual Calendar GMT PAM 01575, a release from Watches & Wonders 2025 that caught his discerning eye. His initial impressions, informed by a hands-on review, highlight the watch's technical prowess and distinctive aesthetic, prompting a closer look at Panerai's innovative approach to high complications. This article explores GWIS's detailed breakdown and the community's reactions to this significant timepiece.

I’m not a Panerai guy and so I missed this release at Watches & Wonders 2025, but SJX have just published a hands on review and it seems like a visually interesting and technically accomplished watch:

- 44mm in platinum (so not one for lovers of small, light watches!), but it’s not just any platinum, it has a surfacing hardening treatment to make it more scratch resistant;

- day, date, second time zone and am/pm indicator on the front;

- month, year, leap year and power reserve on the back to keep the dial clean;

- speaking of the dial, it’s translucent so that you can see the day and date discs (it may not be to everyone’s taste but, personally, I like the look);

- the perpetual calendar is operated via the crown (so no pushers) and it can be adjusted forwards, or backwards, and at any time of the day without damaging the calendar mechanism;

- it’s got hacking seconds, but also with a return to zero mechanism to make it easy to set against a reference time;

- it’s powered by an automatic movement with a micro rotor and has a 72 hour  power reserve.

All in all, I think it looks and sounds like a very impressive watch. Well done Panerai!

Unlike many people, I do like Panerai with complications, I think that there is room in a collection for classic and more modern looking.

Why such low WR if all functions are set with the crown?

But I agree that, given Panerai’s history with dive watches and the lack of pushers, it would be good too have more water resistance.

...there seem to be the whole shooting gallery, on this one. No coffee-push-button though. I'm not that good at technology, but it looks very impressive

I wonder how long it actually takes to set the proper date 🤔 In my opinion, setting everything from the crown (like on a UN perpetual) is only cool if it takes about 30 seconds.
