Subexplorer's 'ramblings' about the Panerai PAM341 Egiziano capture the unique allure and challenge of owning such a monumental timepiece. His personal encounter with the 60mm titanium watch sparked a contemplation on its role as a collector's item versus a wearable watch. This post delves into the community's perspective on the Egiziano's historical significance and its 'state of mind' appeal.

Hello friends!! Just to share some thoughts which arised today after visiting a local AD to say hi to my friends there and wish them a Happy New Year.

One of my friends at that shop produced some watches recently arriived and among them was a mint example of the Pam 341 Egiziano with its big box and documents.

This one was not a new arrival but the last they have of a total of six they had received some years ago. This surprised me of course as I didn´t suspect Panerai had so many dyed in the wool fans here in my Country.

This is the first time I had the chance to try the Big Egiziano on my wrist.

Of course it confirmed what I had always thought: it looks ridiculously BIG on my wrist! This is not a watch to wear even if I had Schwarzenegger wrists! But the watch is superbly made and so attractive in spite of its size.

While driving back to my office, I kept thinking in this monster watch and I remembered our friend Sergio comment some time ago, saying something like "the Egiziano is an state of mind"... (If Sergio reads this post he will refresh the exact words, I hope)

I´m sure I wouldn´t dare to wear this watch. I still feel it looks ridiculous on my wrist or on any wrist.. but...

But may be this is a watch to own if you are truly interested in Panerai watches and its history. I feel it is an interesting piece of collection, historicaly important, and attractive both as a very low quantity edition, and the use ofTitanum for its case.

By the other hand I love to wear my watches, and purchasing an expensive watch I know I won´t wear looks weird to me.

Anyway I arrived to my office and to work and the watch keeps haunting me.

And I know it will keep haunting my mind tonight!

Ok my friends: I´ll appreciate your comments regarding how you view the Egiziano as a piece of collecting.

Thank you in advance!

Cheers! Abel.

About the Panerai Radiomir Egiziano Ref. PAM341

The Radiomir PAM341 is a distinctive interpretation within the Radiomir collection, notable for its substantial dimensions and faithful adherence to historical design cues. This reference stands out for its large case size, which directly references early experimental models, offering a bold presence on the wrist. It represents a specific niche for collectors who appreciate the brand's heritage in oversized timepieces, diverging from more contemporary or compact offerings.

This particular Radiomir features a brushed titanium case measuring 60mm in diameter, providing a lightweight yet robust construction for its size. The watch is equipped with the in-house Calibre P.2002/7, a manual-winding movement known for its extended power reserve. A 5.8mm sapphire crystal protects the dial, ensuring clarity and durability, while the brushed titanium bezel complements the case finish.

Appealing to collectors who seek a direct connection to the brand's historical prototypes, the PAM341 is a significant piece for its scale and material choice. Its limited production and unique proportions position it as a specialized item within the broader catalog, favored by those who prioritize historical accuracy and a commanding wrist presence over conventional wearability. The design emphasizes legibility and a minimalist aesthetic, consistent with its historical inspiration.

... To each his dreams!! Agnelli set the pace of many aspects of life. He was truly a man of great taste and big personality. He choose to wear some of his watches on the sleeve of his pullover or shirt cuffs. In this case he is shown wearing his Omega Ploprof which is a bit smaller than the Egiziano and has no lugs so the Omega wears much smaller than the Egiziano I feel. Anyway, the Panerai keeps haunting me! Lol!! Thank you so much for your comments! Cheers! Abel

Here is a vintage one sublimely captured by someone ( John Goldberger? ) : The re edition is faithful to the spirit of the original. Which lead me to think twice about my statement: It is as it is, a watch which is out of norms, in terms of size and character. Not for every wrist? Who cares? It is such a special watch that I think I could go for it. I would wear it once or twice a year, during a carnaval... And what the heck? No, I think I wold grab it. But in this case, I would make the trio: P
