Chronometer (aka yacomino) embarks on a quest to acquire his first Panerai, seeking guidance from the WatchProSite community. His focus on specific dial aesthetics—no date, small seconds, and the iconic four Arabic numerals—highlights a common entry point for collectors drawn to Panerai's distinctive design language. This discussion offers valuable insights into navigating the brand's diverse references, particularly for those prioritizing traditional Panerai characteristics and robust performance.

So do you think the 995 is more likely to stand the test of time i guess?
Something else, without small seconds but one to own ...
to look for a Fiddy NOS (a.k.a. PAM127), which would satisfy both your requirements. 3-6-9-12+second counter and guard bridge. For the first Panerai, I it would be just great. If it were to become the first and....last....it would be an even better choice
Don't you think a first Panerai needs that typical crown guard? The "green" one (sorry Paneristi for my lack of knowledge of Panerai references😣) is very, very nice, yes, but as a second or third Panerai in a collection.
Historically The first panerai didn’t had the crown guard. That was introduced with the third generation of u want to say so. Have look on that picture. From the left to the right you see the evolution. My first panerai was as well something similar to the 995. So it’s a perfect watch to start .
Now that you mentioned It, I think I recall that evolution also. Do I get away with it to say: a modern (!) Panerai needs a Crown guard?
