Nicolas (amanico) presents a captivating side-by-side comparison of three exquisite Panerai Radiomir 1940 Chronographs: the PAM 518 in platinum, PAM 519 in rose gold, and PAM 520 in white gold. His original post invites collectors to appreciate the distinct appeal of each reference and share their personal preferences. This visual exploration highlights why these specific chronographs stand out in Panerai's diverse catalog.

For the pleasure of the eyes.

There are not so many Chronographs which are appealing, from Panerai, but this one, whatever the version, is quite pleasant.

I would favor the platinum, which is eye catching, then the rose gold for its " Cali " dial.

You?

Best,

Nicolas

About the Panerai Radiomir 1940 Chronograph Platino Ref. PAM518

The Radiomir 1940 Chronograph PAM518 is a limited edition timepiece that draws inspiration from historical Panerai designs while incorporating a sophisticated chronograph complication. This reference is distinguished by its precious metal construction and the specific dial layout, which offers a clear and legible display for its chronograph functions. It represents a more complex offering within the Radiomir 1940 series, moving beyond the time-only or GMT functions typically associated with the line.

The PAM518 features a 45mm polished platinum case, providing a substantial presence on the wrist. It is fitted with a 2.8mm Plexiglas crystal, a detail that references vintage Panerai watches and contributes to its classic aesthetic. The watch is powered by the hand-wound Calibre OP XXV, a column-wheel chronograph movement. This caliber offers a power reserve of 8 days, a notable feature that enhances its practicality for collectors. The water resistance is rated at 50 meters.

This reference appeals to collectors seeking a high-end chronograph from Panerai that combines historical design cues with contemporary watchmaking. Its limited production and use of platinum position it as a significant piece for those interested in rare and technically refined Panerai models. The Radiomir 1940 Chronograph was also produced in other precious metals, offering variations in dial execution, which are often discussed among enthusiasts.

One of the most attractive / appealing "new" watches from Panerai in many years. I'd go for the RG/Cali, if I had a choice.

But as time went on I think the 520 would now be my choice. FWIW, I think the 518 is the nicest white dial the brand has ever produced. Pictures saved from my hard drive, and are not mine.

PAM196 Daylight black dial was my first Panerai. Purchased in 2004. But the hands just looked too thin against that busy dial. The chrono hand looked even weirder. My choice would be the 520. The symmetry and the contrast just seem to fit inside the Radiomir case.
