This article provides a historical snapshot of how luxury watch brands engaged with collectors a decade ago.
This past Thursday was our annual Panerai NYC dinner event showcasing the new SIHH 2012 collection. The Thursday before was our Beverly Hills event (link to BH write-up is here: http://panerai.watchprosite.com/show-forumpost/fi-717/pi-5365838/ti-799488/s-0/).
It's going to be tough day as my flight from LAX to JFK is 6:30am in the morning so I have to wake up at 3:45am. No pain no gain!
I had a chardonnay with my mixed nuts and dried fruit after takeoff, so I'm off to a good start in the morning.

My stomach is still growling and here's the morning appetizer to munch on:

followed by a delicious cheese omelette which hit the right spot. I'm just about to pass out from food coma which is my goal to help pass the 5 hour flight

My companion for the trip was my trusty and reliable PAM195.

Time flies by so fast and my plane is almost into JFK. The cabin crew serves us chocolate chip cookies to prepare us for NYC.
My plane lands and I take an arduous hour long taxi ride in NYC traffic to my hotel. This is one thing I definitely don't miss having lived in NYC for many years - the rush hour traffic. The lack of sleep from culmination of prior nights is hitting me now, so I take a power nap. I then hop into the shower to wake up and get ready to tonight's Panerai dinner event.
I'm feeling good now and off I am feeling energized to get ready to play photographer and host for our NYC Panerai event

The PAM195 represents a specialized variant within Panerai's Luminor Marina collection, distinguished by its PVD steel construction and Paneristi designation. This reference occupies a specific position in the brand's catalog as a treated steel iteration of the 44mm Luminor Marina format.
The 44mm case utilizes PVD steel construction with a matching PVD steel bezel. Technical specifications include 300-meter water resistance and a 3.5mm sapphire crystal fitted with a magnifier. The watch operates on Panerai's Calibre OP III movement, housed within the brand's characteristic Luminor case architecture.
This reference appeals to collectors seeking PVD-treated alternatives within the Luminor Marina range. The combination of the 44mm case size, specialized coating treatment, and Paneristi nomenclature positions the PAM195 as a distinct option for those preferring non-traditional steel finishes in their Panerai collection.
Guests begin to trickle in at the Panerai NYC Boutique on Madison Ave. A vast majority of the people tonight are new faces and are attending their 1st PuristS event. All photos below are posted in chronological order, so you get a better feel of the order of events. Panerai North America President Rafael Alvarez is showing various Panerai's to this couple. The lady seems to be intrigued with the beauty of Panerai and seems to be attached to this particular Panerai. I didn't get a close look of w
We all begin to head out of the Boutique and walk around the corner to Core Club which is a private membership club where we're having our dinner for the night. Up the elevator we go! Looks like Panerai booked this entire floor as there were Panerai vitrines throughout the sides of room with the SIHH 2012 collection on display. What a fabulous venue and ambience IMO! Most of the guests begin sitting down for dinner. Here's a shot of one of the Panerai vitrines on display. Tonight's menu offering
I decided it's the 422 for me! What a great opportunity to try on all the new models!
This was my first Panerai Purists Pro event and it was indeed a really special night. Being able to dine in such a great atmosphere with really good people and some serious collectors made my summer. I learned alot, enjoyed the 'borherhood' and was learned much from folks such as well-known Panerai collector, Eng Tay. The event helped me plot out my next Panerai acquisitions in a more informed manner. And one of the many bonuses of the event, was my getting to know (and get educated) by the much
Along with what you've done here at Purist, I remember you as a mod of a different Panerai enthusiast site. But always nice to finally put a face to the name. What a blast to hear first hand account of how you got your 21! Of course having an opportunity to see the 2012 collection along with talking to Raphael Alvarez and other Purists made it a tremendous evening. While being the event photographer, you were still a gracious host. Thanks again!!!
and nice to finally put a face to a login name now! Cheers, Anthony
