Amanico's enduring connection with his Patek Philippe 5110P, now celebrating its 21st anniversary, offers a compelling look into the emotional depth of luxury watch ownership. His personal journey, marked by a four-year wait and a memorable acquisition in Taormina, underscores the profound significance collectors attach to these horological masterpieces. This piece explores why the 5110P, a world time complication, continues to captivate collectors decades after its introduction.

Ultra or High End apart, this is the reference which made the strongest impression on me, along with the 5070, the 5100 and the 5960.

To tell you the truth, I had a hard time choosing between the 5110 and the 5100 as my first Patek. The 5100 was magic with its special case and its 10 Days movement, the 5110 ade me dream with its world time complication. Think about it... How many watches offered such a complication at that time ( Ten Days or World Time, by the way )?

Fate helped me to decide. I couldn't score a 5100 at that time, and it was easier to find a 5110. The dream turned into reality on the 2d of November 2004....

You now know the conditions I got my 5110P, I wrote it several times, but a friendly AD, a superb place ( Taormina ) and a great offer male the moment even more special. AND, waiting 4 years before being able to get it, that is something which counts, too.

After 21 years of ownership, I can tell you that Love is even stronger than the first day. I can even tell you that it is one of the few watches I consider as a keeper in my collection.

So, most probably, you will have many other Birthday posts about this watch! wink

Best,

Nicolas

About the Patek Philippe Ref. 5130

The Patek Philippe Complications reference 5130, introduced in 2006, is a World Time watch that succeeded the popular reference 5110. This model maintained the distinctive World Time complication, allowing for simultaneous display of time in 24 different time zones. Its design evolved with a slightly larger case and updated dial aesthetics, distinguishing it from its predecessor while retaining the core functionality that defines Patek Philippe's travel timepieces. It was produced until 2017.

The watch features an 18k rose gold case measuring 39.5mm in diameter and 9.8mm in thickness, housing the self-winding Caliber 240 HU movement. This ultra-thin movement, visible through a sapphire crystal case back, provides a power reserve of 48 hours. The dial is silver or opaline with a guilloché center, protected by a sapphire crystal. Water resistance is rated at 30 meters.

Reference 5130 appeals to collectors seeking a sophisticated travel complication from Patek Philippe. Its larger case size compared to the 5110 offered a more contemporary presence on the wrist, while its classic World Time mechanism remained a hallmark of the brand's technical prowess. The model was available in various precious metals, with the rose gold variant offering a warm aesthetic.

and not in vain, as after 21 years the 5110P does not look like an old watch but like a powerful wine it is becoming more elegant and balanced as years pass by, also its design became somehow more contemporary imho. To many more 21 years.

The question is where will you take her on this special occasion, and do we see a 5100 or 5960 in the near future?
