not often am I completely wrong smile but in this case I guess I did not understand the market.
I believe the 5135 is Patek's best annual calendar ever made. others like the 5146, 5205, 5396 are nice pieces for sure but not one has imo the strong character like the Gondolo case 5135. And ... it has a great size for a Patek, big but not too big.

Only introduced in 2006 and already discontinued in 2011 or so (?) so only in production 5 or 6 year. And no, it dit not get an update like the 5035 became the 5146. Or like the worldtimer 5110 became the 5130. Patek took it out of production and nothing similar was introduced the next year.
They made this reference in all possible versions one would expect, so the red, yellow white gold and platinum case. Some had different dial combinations. The 5135G for example was available with silver dial and slate grey dial.

That last one together with the R were imo the most beautiful. Can you imagine back in 2006 I even hesitated between this and a 5070R? My budget preferred the 5135 smile but my heart went for the 5070R
Imo the best decision but since then I can't stop thinking about a 5135

Weeks ago a friend of mine bought one and I took some pictures.
Look at that watch, what a presence!  Such a well shaped case , so much more than most 'round' simple cases

From the start I thought this would be a winner but somehow it was not a big succes. They did not sell good and that was probably the reason why it survived only 5 or 6 years.
Maybe, within 20-30 years, this might be a sought after piece. Those that were not popular in the past sometimes become very sought after in the future

And most interesting ... even today they are still a bargain on the secondhand market. Unbelievable you can get this complicated gold watch for the same price as a stainless stee simple 5711.
So I am wrong or the market still doesn't understand this gorgeous watch

About the Patek Philippe Ref. 5135

The Patek Philippe Reference 5135 represents a masterful interpretation of the annual calendar complication, introduced as part of Patek Philippe s contemporary collection following the brand s pioneering work in accessible perpetual calendar alternatives. This reference showcases Patek Philippe s commitment to horological excellence while maintaining the practical sophistication that defines their modern complicated timepieces. The 5135 carries forward the prestigious legacy of Patek Philippe s calendar watches, offering collectors a refined example of Swiss haute horlogerie that balances technical complexity with everyday wearability.

At the heart of the Reference 5135 beats the automatic Caliber 324 S QA LU, a sophisticated movement that displays the annual calendar function with exceptional precision and reliability. This self-winding caliber incorporates Patek Philippe s advanced gear train technology and maintains the brand s stringent finishing standards throughout its construction. The movement elegantly orchestrates the display of day, date, month, and moon phases, requiring adjustment only once per year at the end of February. The 38.2mm rose gold case provides optimal proportions for this complex movement while ensuring the various calendar indications remain clearly legible on the pristine white dial.

The design philosophy of the 5135 emphasizes classical elegance through its clean white dial presentation, which serves as the perfect canvas for the multiple calendar apertures and subsidiary dials. The fixed bezel and sapphire crystal construction reflect Patek Philippe s commitment to durability and optical clarity, while the overall aesthetic maintains the timeless sophistication expected from Geneva s most prestigious manufacture. For collectors, the Reference 5135 occupies a significant position as an accessible entry point into Patek Philippe s complicated watch segment, offering the prestige of annual calendar functionality in a format that exemplifies the brand s design philosophy and technical mastery.

Things can change overnight. I have had mine since 2007 and I still can find a replacement. I even wear it during summer! I just change it from "suit" to "Bermudas"... P.s. Looking at aftermarket prices I just realized that they do sell higher that what they listed for in their day. That being the case of a 2009 relatively used one. Take into consideration that since 2007 there has been quite a steep rise in prices every year. Patek anual calendars where in the low 20s (€) back then...

Have to admit I have not really paid this one much attention but it certainly is quite appealing. The oversized dimensions make it stand out quite a bit, somehow in the way that the 5070 does in my mind. The dial of the 5135P is quite attractive I think. The problem with it I suspect is that in the world of Patek there are so many appealing references and most do not have there luxury of owning more than one or very few. I certainly would easily see myself owning more if it was possible but that

Maybe a bit too strong for most; that may explain why it did not do well at the time and even now: in general the masses like round shaped watches then square, leaving tonneau or gondolo type of cases at the bottom of the average wish list. Same for the current 5940 recently reviewed by Mark. Looking back you went for the 5070R at the time so you got it right, this one is readily available on the pre-owned market so you did in the right order from a money perspective. But you liked this one at t

The style they are carrying is taking its inspiration into very nice periods of design as Art Deco. Difficult to define what makes them look that way but it is more how the elements combine perfectly with one another. You seem indeed to know very well about this reference. I don't think the success of these shaped references can be assessed the same way round watches do: rectangular watches will always appeal to a much smaller part of clients. Hence they can't be provided following round watches

it is more about the fact that people are much less attracted by shaped watches The stronger the character and style, the narrower the potential clients. However, when they do, they usually really love them. I like the 5200 quite much (and the beautiful faceted sapphire glass) and the 5940 case too. But not on the top of my list yet. Cheers, Mark
