cayenne1200 shares his initial impressions of the Patek Philippe Ref. 5212A, a highly anticipated new model. His firsthand account offers valuable insights into the watch's aesthetics, wearability, and unique dial features, providing collectors with a detailed perspective beyond official photographs. This post serves as an excellent early review for those considering this distinctive Calatrava.

I was very much interested in this new model since its presentation at Baselworld. As I never had the chance to see it live I never had a full impression of the watch, its size, its dial, its weight, etc.

Today I’ve got the call from my dealer saying the watch has finally arrived. I immediately went over to him for a first live impression. All I can say is that I like it a lot. The dial is much nicer in real than on photos - as usually with Patek watches. Due to the steel case it feels very lightweight. The proportions of diameter and thickness of the case are very balanced for my eyes. The strap is matching trending pretty well and is not as bad as often stated.

All in all this is a great new version of a Calatrava with an interesting and sometimes helpful complication.

Luckily I could buy the watch under the condition that the dealer could keep it for another week or so for showing it to other customers/collectors.

Therefore I can probably pick it up by end of next week hopefully.

For a first glance I’ll attach some pics under bad light conditions.

About the Patek Philippe Ref. 5212

The Patek Philippe Reference 5212A Calatrava Weekly Calendar introduced a novel complication to the brand's lineup, displaying not only the day and date but also the current week number and month. This function is particularly useful for individuals who track their schedules and business activities by week. The watch maintains the classic Calatrava aesthetic while incorporating a complex yet legible dial layout for its unique calendar display.

Crafted in stainless steel, a less common material for Patek Philippe complications, the 5212A features a 40mm case with a distinctive stepped lug design. It houses the self-winding caliber 26-330 S C J SE, visible through a sapphire crystal case back. This movement provides a power reserve of approximately 35-45 hours and incorporates a new base caliber for the brand, developed specifically for this weekly calendar mechanism.

This reference appeals to collectors seeking a Patek Philippe with a distinctive and practical complication, offered in a robust and understated material. Its introduction marked a notable addition to the Calatrava collection, demonstrating Patek Philippe's continued innovation in calendar functions. The steel construction also positions it as a more accessible entry point for some collectors into the brand's complicated offerings.

Congratulations! I too am waiting for one and hope it arrives before the year ends. I love everything about this watch and I can imagine it being one of my favourite Pateks in a while. It will be the only watch in my collection with a date which I would not normally be fond of but I actually feel it suits this watch. Otherwise, an additional dial to indicate the date would make the watch more cluttered.

I‘m looking forward very much to spending more time with this beauty. Especially the dial surface is very much intriguing to me. It has kind of a metallic effect to it and a beautiful cream tone. The very special font of the writing on the dial makes it very special as well. The 40 mm case doesn’t appear too large. For me the proportions are perfect.

thanks to the gorgeous lugs. I too was worried about the 40mm size but once I tried it on, I was pleasantly surprised. I think 40mm was necessary for a dial with so much happening on it.

But the font is taken from the hand-writing of one of the Patek designers.
