Dje's post invites the WatchProSite community to reflect on their enduring affection for Patek Philippe watches, building on a previous discussion. He shares his personal aspirations for future acquisitions, including specific references and hypothetical new releases, prompting fellow collectors to reveal their own Patek Philippe wish lists for the upcoming Basel show.
It has been a very interesting discussion and I really think that we’ve got all together a quite true explanation of why we love them!
I should have talked to you about the last Patek Philippe watch I tried. It was during SIHH thanks to the (too) temporary loan by my friend Patrice.
As already expressed you’ll see below my three most probable choices for my first Patek Philippe watch, so far!

I’m apparently not alone on the first as we’ve seen it several times recently. I don’t even want to think about the 5131G……
I’d like now to think about new (and yet unknown) choices that may arrive within three weeks.
Based on what you expressed as the reasons of your love, what new watch are you expecting at the next Basel show?
I personally hope for a single watch to be offered and complement my little selection. My wish is for a 5153G. Easy try probably!
Beyond that probable new watch for 2010 there are some less probable options I’d like to see.
Some day I would be tempted to see the come back of a stainless steel Calatrava. Maybe a 5153 in steel would be even better, even if quite unprobable.
Or maybe we could get an annual calendar Nautilus in steel? One to compete with my favourite 5146G!
Maybe the steel option would be more logical for Patek Philippe in the Nautilus range.
How many would you be to be interested by a stainless steel Calatrava?
And what about steel options in the complication range?

Obviously the one many of you (and to some extent myself too) are probably awaiting is a new manual wind chronograph. As the 5070 was a bit too large for my wrist my hope is for a slightly smaller watch. At least we know the calibre already and on this part I’m already seduced.
In fact I won’t ask you how you would like to see this watch to be issued as it is already ready! My lips will remain closed!
Maybe this new manual wind chronograph could also be complemented by a stainless steel 5960?
Don’t you think that such a sporty chronograph would deserve a sportier outfit?
Then we may could get a square or rectangular Gondolo to complement the gorgeous 5098.

Another hope for this year would also be to see the arrival of a new calibre I’ve been hoping for long: a central second manual wind calibre (with stop seconds). I have no idea if such a calibre will come but you can imagine what watches could be made with this one.
It could be used for instance in a stainless steel Nautilus case (no date please thank you), or in a Calatrava.
On the complication side I have one secret hope for tomorrow or for the future. I’d love to see a new 3939, keeping exactly the original style but offering a cathedral gong version of the minute repeater tourbillon calibre. That would be IMO the only way to improve on such a perfect base.
I would also love to see a round “simple” tourbillon based on the ten days calibre of the 5101 and keeping the tourbillon on the back in the Patek Philippe tradition.
But you, what would you want Patek Philippe to release?
Let us know.

The Patek Philippe Calatrava reference 3939 is a highly complex and significant offering within the Calatrava line, known for its combination of a minute repeater and a tourbillon. This reference represents a pinnacle of traditional horological craftsmanship, showcasing Patek Philippe's capabilities in grand complications within a classically styled case. It was produced in very limited numbers, making it a notable piece for collectors of high-complication watches.
Crafted in precious metals, the reference 3939 typically features a case diameter of 33.3mm, a size that allows for a refined presence on the wrist while housing its intricate movement. The watch is powered by a manual-wind caliber R TO 27 PS, which integrates both the minute repeater and the tourbillon mechanisms. The movement is visible through a sapphire crystal case back, allowing appreciation of its finishing and the tourbillon cage. The dial is often enamel, contributing to its refined aesthetic.
This reference appeals to collectors who prioritize technical sophistication and traditional finishing. Its dual grand complications, combined with the understated elegance of the Calatrava design, position it as a significant achievement in watchmaking. The limited production and the complexity of its movement contribute to its desirability and its place as a distinguished example of Patek Philippe's haute horlogerie.
A Chronograph... I still can wait 18 more days to see what will come, as it seems that I have a kind of malediction when it comes to PP Chronos: I thought I could get a 5070, and each time, for one reason or another, it wasn't for me... So, to make it clear, I will wait and see how will look like this new PP Chrono. If it is not for me, I will go on a 5070, well, if I manage to end with this " malediction "... My dream? A Rattrapante from PP, but in a lager case than on the 5959. Best, my friend
well said my friend.. : ) cheers
Hi Nicolas, I'm sure (some of) your dreams will come true! I can't wait to see which one. Cheers Dje
Or a Man who knows... Best, my friend. Nicolas
A further evolution of the 6000G would be great, taking care of the critical points. So, larger case (39-40mm) and a window date. Or the 5296R-010 with a dial color like the 5196R.
Hi, I hardly imagine a 6000 with a window date but why not? Ten days left now!! Cheers Dje
