I wanted to share with you my observations on the Piaget Emperador Coussin Regulator. At least that’s what I’m calling it – to Piaget it is the GOA34024. I only had a few minutes in the Piaget Boutique so I grabbed the two watches that caught my eye: the limited edition Rectangle à l’Ancienne that I showed you recently, and this anthracite / grey dialled regulator.
The grey tones of the watch, with the contrasting alligator strap and 18K white gold case really gives it a sleek, modern feel on the wrist. The contrasting round and rectangular shapes and the brushed and polished surfaces contribute to this as well. The case diameter measures 42mm, but the watch wears smaller because of the wider bezel. The watch is also available in RG with a blue dial, but this example is more subdued and versatile.
The 30 second retrograde seconds display at 12 o’clock animates the dial and the regulator, with a large central minutes hand and hours shown at 6 o’clock, add visual interest. The dial has a brushed satin finish which nicely focuses the eye on the information presented. The affixed baton markers are in WG and there is a WG folding clasp befitting the more sporty nature of the piece.
The manual wind Calibre 835P is visible through a sapphire case back. This movement has a thickness of just 3.9mm. The large single barrel powers the watch for 60 hours and it has 27 jewels and beats at 21,600vph (3Hz). It features circular Côtes de Genève with blued screws, perlage on the mainplate and hand bevelled bridges.
The WG Emperador Coussin Regulator was less attention grabbing than the RG/blue dialled Rectangle à l’Ancienne that you know I loved, but as a daily wearer it is a lovely versatile piece.

I think the blue dial of the RG version paired with a WG case would give you the best of both worlds -- a vibrant celebratory dial and the everyday suitability of a white metal case. The stealth factor of this version with its anthracite dial is nice, but I think this watch's unusual display works better in a more jovial presentation. Just my opinion. Cheers, Daos
Especially in WG: The Regulateur is nice... but I don't know, I'm not sure that the case shape works perfectly with it. But I have to confess that, whatever is the brand, I'm not a great fan of regulateurs. On the other hand, I much prefer the handwind movement of the Regulateur: Thanks a lot Andrew for the post! Fx
