Porsche Qualify 1-2

Porsche dominated LMP1 rival Toyota during the six-hour race, the two 919 Hybrids finishing a lap clear of the Japanese cars.

It looked ominous for rivals when Porsche locked out the front grid at qualifying.

The championship-leading No. 2 car of Timo Bernhard, Earl Bamber and Brendon Hartley won their third race in-a-row by just 7 seconds from the No. 1 919 of Andre Lotterer, Neel Jani and Nick Tandy.

The lead for the No. 2 car had been nearly half a minute after the No. 1 car had to take a drive-through penalty because a problem with the pit lane limiter led to a speeding offense, but the deficit was cut during the final stint as the leaders backed off.

The drive-through and a change of fuel flow meter for the winning car were the only problems experienced by Porsche as it followed on victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in June and the Nürburgring in July.

Porsche replaced the fuel-flow meter during a pit stop but didn’t lose the No. 2 crew any time as it was completed while the car was being re-fueled.

Porsche got the handling balance right whereas the Toyota TS050 Hybrid was not competitive in Mexico City, the car lacking downforce at the high-altitude track.

"The car was super-fast, Timo and Brendon did really well. Three in a row is really exciting, and our lead in the points has extended," Bamber said. "I'm sure Toyota will be faster in America, but let's celebrate in Mexico."

“We were only strong in Sector 1, which is mainly straights; we didn’t have the grip of the Porsches in the tight, twisty bits,” a disappointed Davidson (Toyota) said after the race. “It was a shame we didn’t take the fight to Porsche, it was damage limitation for us finishing third.”

Chip Foose schedule

There was a lot of hype about Custom Car Overhauler, Chip Foose,  attending. Others were more interested in actress and TV host Raquel Bigorra; I wonder why?

SUPERFAST WATCH

Superfast Power Control Porsche 919 HF Edition

It was the first opportunity for Mexican fans to see the Chopard Superfast Power Control Porsche 919 HF Edition, which is the latest watch dedicated to the Porsche Motorsport team.

I think the sleek black watch matches the ambience of Mexico and their Lucha Libre wrestling masks.

What do you think?

Porsche would be doing one last hurrah to win this year's World Endurance Championship with their LMP1 cars but they have to do it all over again in 2018 before switching to Formula E in 2019. I can see maybe two more special editions before the Porsche Motorsport 919 range is "retired". What if they win the WEC 3 years in-a-row this year? Perhaps a Superfast Chrono Porsche Motorsport 919 HF or Split Seconds Edition for 2018? Perhaps a FINAL VICTORY edition in 2019 if they win WEC 2018? Looking
