Perpetually PuristS 2010 - NEW YORK

Dear friends,

It is with tremendous excitement and pride for me to present to you the "Perpetually PuristS 2010 in New York". I was honored to be entrusted with the organizing effort, and was thrilled to be in the company of some very avid collectors and watch lovers!

The brutal snowstorm that has been pounding the Northeast has finally come to a momentary stop this weekend, and a group of us, some brave souls even from Pennsylvania and Boston, congregated for lunch at the Porterhouse New York in the Time Warner Center. It's a premier steak-house situated a central and upscale midtown location, with beautiful New American decor. More importantly, it's a big, airy restaurants with large windows, providing us with plenty of natural light for viewing the watches.

At around 12 noon, people started to come in. We hanged around the bar area, drank some light white and red wine, while waiting for everyone to arrive and for our table to get ready.

Then, as we got seated, the first thing everyone did was taking off his watch(s) and passing it(them) around, causing everybody to uncontrollably whip out the camera...

Wait! What's that thing on your wrist? I thought you would only wear watches that are 40mm or less!=)

With the exception of a Patek annular and a very rare manual-wind Grand Seiko, a cursory look at what's on the table would indicate that this is a crowd that likes big and sporty watches - two IWC oversized perpetuals, a GO Senator Navigator Perpetual, Roger Dubuis Excalibur, Panerais, Sarpavena K3, and MANY Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Limited Editions (more on this later)

Throughout the lunch, I just kept handling and admiring the watches. Who needs a view from the window?  A group of nice watches in front of you is the best view!

On the left is a very special IWC Big Pilot Perpetual "Bucherer" in steel. Limited Edition of 70 pieces.

The times on these pieces are all set differently to show the cross-over to March 1st in different stages.

Although the three-course meal was superb and the six different bottles of wine that we drank were very interesting, for me food and wine became an after thought amidst such beautiful horological creations, and I forgot to take photos of of the epicurean delights!
