AnthonyTsai's announcement of the PuristSPro All-Black Rescue watch from Baselworld 2008 introduces a unique community collaboration focused on utility and affordability. This post highlights a refreshing departure from haute horology, emphasizing a practical, robust timepiece designed with input from medical professionals. It showcases a different facet of watch collecting, where functionality and community spirit take center stage.
Dear PuristS,
PuristSPro and St Gallen Horology Co are collaborating on a PuristSPro All-Black Rescue watch – a special, exclusive version of the St. Gallen PVD Disinfectable Rescue model.
(see review: CLICK HERE ).
Feedback from medical personnel and general public has been positive. PuristS’ physicians and world-renowned collectors have helped St Gallen design a useful and affordable SportS Watch and Tactical (SWaT) © timepiece. Our doctors “twisted some joints” and St Gallen agreed to make 178 pieces of the PuristSPro All-Black Rescue for the PuristS’ community.
PuristS can enjoy affordable watches with reliable ETA 2824-2 automatic movements -
"It's not all about tourbillons and minute repeaters!"
PuristS interested in getting one of these pieces for their collection or for a medical colleague, please note:
We will take pre-paid orders for the PuristSPro All-Black Rescue watch.

"Medical Rescue Kit"

Case holds watch, straps, buckle, cleaning tool and 316L "sterilisation hook"
(Regular Rescue watch for illustration only)
Here is a teaser dial drawing:

(The PuristSPro red strap is shown on a regular Rescue model)

Two colors of medical grade silicone straps will be provided as a set:
Regular Black and PuristSPro Red .
Silicone 'rubber' is a highly inert material and does not react with most chemicals.
Due to its inertness, it is used in many medical applications and in medical implants
i.e. Non-Allergenic.
It offers excellent resistance to extreme temperatures ( -55°C to +300°C).
Organic rubber is a C - C polymer, and thus susceptible to ozone, UV, heat and other aging factors, whereas silicone (polysiloxane) is a Si-O-Si polymer that withstands those well.
Please state your preferred strap circumference:
Short: 5.5 – 6.5 inches (14.0 – 16.5 cm)
Long: 6.5 – 7.5 inches (16.5 – 19.0 cm)
If in doubt, always go for a looser fit because rubber always pinches….trust me.
St Gallen can provide (at extra charge) additional non-disinfectable calf leather or galuchat (sting-ray) straps with common tang-buckles. It goes against the pure ideals of disinfection but we know that some people will ask.....
Strap prices depends on demand.
Pricing favours the Early Bird:

UPDATE - More teaser photos
Look at the attention to detail - the steel hook for hanging the watch into sterilising fluid is marked with the Medical Cross at one end and at the other end (not shown) is 316L.

These are NOT the PPro ABR watches but rejected prototypes
The final version is way cooler with changes to hands, dial, case, buckle and even one component in the movement.....as is the PuristS way........

I hate all the electronic measuring devices that my nurses use at the office. Taking a pulse personally gives a little human touch to the patients who visit my office. Can't wait to see and hold the final version! Cheers, Mike
I agree Mike. Doctors need to get back "in touch" with their patients in these days of electronic monitors. I was seen by 2 doctors and sent for CAT scan, X-Rays, blood tests ans spirometry before the 3rd one remembered to do a physical examination! This watch is a fun way of reminding clinicians to take a pulse manually. It makes medicine about people again.... Regards, MTF
Hello MTF, hope things are well with you. Honestly most doctors do not take the patient's pulse. Usually it's the M.A., nurse, or P.A. that does it.
As an anaesthetist (anesthesiologist in US-speak), only I have my finger on the pulse However, when putting on my Critical Care (Intensivist) hat....er....mask.....the machines and nurses take over and I can't even get near a patient with all them tubes and wires and "patient interphases" :-( But when I was a patient having part of my lung ripped out, I sure wished that my doctors had the human touch. One guy saw me 3 times and ordered all sorts of tests before even laying a hand on me. Perhaps,
... thankfully not from own experience, though. But my wife is working in radiologic diagnostics, and she witnesses a dramatic tendency of doctors losing contact with their patients. ONly the imagery is studied (or sometimes even but glanced over), not a word is exchanged with the patient. It is not astonishing that tv shows like "Dr. House", that are based on the idea of listening to the patient's story, are so successful with the public. Best regards, Marcus
that not just touch, conversation is also essential. kong This message has been edited by Kong on 2008-04-02 02:40:24
