The cars race day and night, although they are no longer required to go the 24 hour distance. The races are still a timed run, but over a shorter time horizon. how tired they are! Generally, if racing 24 hours, they drive four hours on, and then (say) four hours off for a 2 man team. The night shots were taken with a very high film speed and some fill in flash. Thanks - glad you liked the write up Andrew H

The Le Mans circuit has seen some gladiatorial battles between racing marques over the years.
