In an era where acquiring a new Rolex directly from an authorized dealer often feels like an impossible feat, "One day just one watch" shares a compelling narrative of pure serendipity. His account offers a rare glimpse into a successful walk-in purchase, challenging the prevailing notion that desirable Rolex models are exclusively reserved for long-standing clients or the grey market. This story resonates with collectors navigating the current retail landscape, providing a beacon of hope and a reminder that unexpected opportunities can still arise.

It has been a long time since i posted a new addition to my collection and to be honest i had given up on Rolex. A couple of weeks ago i visited Paris and stayed near the Elysee in the 8th arrondissement and normally i would check out every jeweller to see what they have in stock (not only Rolex by the way). On the Rue Jean Mermoz there was this reseller who had every hot Rolex, from Pepsi to Daytona and so on. But for ridiculous prices i cannot afford. On the Champs Elysees there is a Rolex store but i did not even bother to check the window because from a distance i could already see the signs “for exhibition only”, so what is the point to look at something you cannot buy. The Dutch dealers have the same signs. The whole collection is on display but you cannot buy one watch. And then this happened. I went in to the shop and started a conversation with a young salesman. He asked me what i was looking for and i replied: “Nothing, because everything you show from Rolex is not for sale, so don’t bother”. But he persisted and asked me which one had my interest. And i said that i really liked the look of the Yachtmaster with the blue dial. He then said wait a minute let me check, and he went to another room. And low and behold he returned with a Yachtmasterin a plastic seal. I said i did not want to look at it or put in on my wrist if it was not for sale. He then told me if i liked it i could buy it…..my jaw dropped, i double checked, i put it on and then….

I bought it!

Great story and happy for you - looks nice! Ps: had that one a while back, cannot remember why I let it go … probably a moment of short insanity. Looking back I like the fact that the bezel makes it less “Rolex-y” and more stealthy

Maybe a watch that actually was owned by the AD in question? Congratulations on any case!!! This is a beautiful watch that is off the beaten path when it comes to Rolex. It’s the perfect combination of sporty and elegant.

And i had the rhodium dial YM but sold that to buy the RG YM oysterflex. I regretted the sale very much, that is why i feel so lucky with being able to buy this one, love it!
