Miles_151 presents the Rolex Daytona 50th Anniversary in platinum, sparking a debate among collectors about its distinctive weight and color combination. This thread explores personal preferences, historical fashion norms, and the watch's status as a 'sleeper' luxury item.

The Daytona itself is time tested but the heft of this one is huge. Who has a problem with the weight and colours chosen by Rolex on this watch ????

There is something very nice about a watch with this type of weight. I love that about it. But, I am not a fan of the colour combination. It was drilled into me at school that brown and blue were not a good mixture.....mainly interview skills..... never wear a blue suit with brown shoes. Ahhhh, the British public school system! I have a friend who, after university, worked at a British stockbroker called Cazenove. He dared to wear brown shoes witha blue suit and was asked to go out and buy a pai

I like this watch , especially since someone traded in an almost unworn RG Daytona wth a cream color dial at an AD. I was able to get that watch for what people are paying for the SS with Cerachrome bezel.

I know exactly where you are coming from. However you do see more people these days wearing blue suits with Brown shoes. When I first saw it I so wanted to dislike it in the flesh with the price tag. But unfortunately it fortunately I loved it. Thank you for the honest thoughts and opinion. M.

I believe we went to schools that were just 5-10 miles apart, right? Its funny how things that were drilled in at that age just linger on. I see guys wearing brown shoes and blue suits all the time now and it is much more widely accepted. Times change. On this, i suspect I won't. I won't wear brown shoes with a grey suit either!!!

Seems to be his β€œgo to” personal watch.

The color combination is awesome. I considered buying it lately but at a list price of approx. EUR 68k here I’m really hesitant. Add EUR 5k and you can get a 5170P which will be discontinued this year. If Rolex come up with a Submariner in Pt with ice blue dial and brown bezel at Baselworld 2019, we will be talking again. V
