Echi's original post offers a nostalgic look at his enduring connection with his first luxury watch, a Rolex Explorer II Ref. 16570. His reflection on how magazine advertisements shaped his early horological preferences provides a unique perspective on the power of media in cultivating a passion for watches. This piece explores the lasting impact of a 'first love' watch and how collector tastes evolve over nearly two decades.

I loved mine, but the Cream Dial killed it.
gave mine to one of my son-in-law so still in the family...
That is a long time Echi, 17 years. My first automatic watch which isnโt a luxury watch is almost 3 years old. On 17 April i have it 3 years. I commit i am also sensitive for watch advertorials like you. A magazine is a paper salesman. I saw a Longines advertorial a few years ago on their website... I bought that watch. I saw many advertorials, i am afraid i end up with a huge watch collection ๐
20+ years later, however, it's the polar 16570 (and the Cartiers) which get all the wrist time. Never intended to get a Rolex, but took this one in as part of a trade with the intent of quickly selling it for cash. But fell in love with the dial and crisp appearance of this reference - for me it's the perfect sports watch.
