Hello Rolex fans,

A newbie here taking his first trembling steps into the brand!

As most of you know I love Jaeger-LeCoultre and (I used to) stick pretty hard to the brand.

But a lesser known fact is that my first “real” watch was a Rolex.

A Sea-Dweller Ref 16600.

She is still with me and I wear her regularly.

A trusty beater up for any adventures!

Early in my collection was another Rolex – Explorer II Ref 16750.

The perfect travel companion!

To be honest – I have always known this is where I will end up…

It has just been a question of time!

The day I realized I am more into old watches than new, I knew I was destined to end up here with you guys…

I have been fighting this for so long… So Long! Didn’t want to open this Pandora’s Box!

smile

So, I know there has been a pool going on which vintage Rolex I will get first…

Sub-SD-Expl-GMT…?

The King of Black has bet on Sub- or Sea-Dweller while the King of Black Souls bet on GMT…

My normal instinct would have been to go black.

Opportunity made me to go (of course with a helping hand from a dear friend)…

Go... Gilt-Chapter ring-Swiss only-Pointed crown guard.

Damn, you Rolex guys really have a complicated lingo!

wink

Once I saw her, my choice was easy!

This choice also makes me cover my bases quite well.

Of course – I need to show some documents in this post.

1958 - 20 out of 21 pilots...

1963 – Interesting with the PanAm ref in a Submariner ad…

A couple of French ads from 1966.

1966.

Well, the game of finding matching outfits has started… Pink...

Brown...

This is a watch that loves the Sun!

smile

And water...

She has nothing against posing indoors…

Chapter Ring...

Pointed Crown Guard

24-Hour hand

 Revolving rim

But she do prefer outside posing!

smile

Another dear friend has many times said “I see a crown in your future”…

Every time I think – “Yes, I know”!

Now the future is here – and I am afraid of what will happen to me now that I have opened this Pandora’s box…

Hope you enjoyed.

Best

About the Rolex 16600 Ref. 16600

The Sea-Dweller reference 16600 represents a significant evolution within Rolex's professional dive watch collection, succeeding the reference 16660. It maintained the robust engineering principles of its predecessors while incorporating updated materials and manufacturing techniques. This reference is distinguished by its helium escape valve, a feature essential for saturation divers, allowing trapped gases to escape during decompression without damaging the crystal. It is a tool watch designed for extreme underwater environments, positioned above the Submariner in terms of water resistance and specialized features.

This reference features a 40 mm stainless steel case, providing a substantial yet wearable presence. It is equipped with the self-winding caliber 3135, a chronometer-certified movement known for its reliability and precision, offering a power reserve of approximately 48 hours. The watch utilizes a sapphire crystal, contributing to its enhanced durability and scratch resistance. Its construction ensures a water resistance rating suitable for professional diving applications.

For collectors, the 16600 is notable as the last Sea-Dweller reference to feature a 40mm case and an aluminum bezel insert before the introduction of ceramic bezels and larger case sizes. It appeals to enthusiasts seeking a modern classic with traditional proportions and a robust, purpose-built design. The consistent black dial and steel bracelet across its production run underscore its functional aesthetic.
