Baron - Mr Red provides a candid, three-week on-wrist review of his Rolex GMT-Master II 116710, sharing his personal experience with its comfort, versatility, and design nuances. His insights offer a valuable long-term perspective on owning this modern Rolex reference, highlighting what makes it a standout piece in his collection.

The Rolex GMT-Master II reference 116710BLNR, known by collectors as the "Batman," introduced a novel blue and black ceramic bezel to the GMT-Master II lineup. This was the first time Rolex combined two distinct colors on a single monobloc Cerachrom bezel, a significant technical achievement. The blue segment represents daylight hours, while the black segment denotes nighttime, aiding in tracking a second or third time zone.
This reference features a 40mm Oystersteel case, housing the automatic Caliber 3186 movement, which provides a power reserve of approximately 48 hours. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal with a Cyclops lens over the date display and is water-resistant to 100 meters. The black dial provides a contrasting backdrop for the Chromalight hour markers and hands.
Appealing to collectors interested in modern Rolex innovations and practical travel watches, the 116710BLNR quickly became a highly sought-after model. Its distinctive bezel color combination set it apart from previous GMT-Master II references and established a new aesthetic within the collection, preceding subsequent iterations with similar two-tone ceramic bezels.
when you say that you prefer it to Rasta and interestingly enough now that you mentioned it indeed the outlay of bracelet your way would be much more successful All the best and good weekend Yours Damjan
.....in the scheme of things, the bracelet is not a big deal. I may have a NOS one that I can replace it with!! HAGWE Joe
The experience is so often the most helpful for me when contemplating a watch purchase, and this has helped immensely. I do agree with you on the shiny bits on the bracelet, and if anything, is still the one thing that's holding me back from adding this to my collection, and it takes a lot to convince me when it comes to these modern Rolexes, so that says a lot.
What you think about the "Zoomed" case and lugs, when compared with the previous versions? Cheers, Nilo
.....reality is simply that it actually works well.... it synthesises with great ease. I think this was something that was on Chris's radar....would be interesting to see if he finds the same if/when he tries on the watch.
I was wondering how would you compare that with the original and classic all black ceramic bezel GMT2? do you think the new black/blue bezel made all the difference ? Can't deny that the GMT2-C is a superbly made watch. Cheers !
