Ted O shares his ongoing quest to acquire the Rolex GMT-Master II 'Sprite,' detailing his frustrations with authorized dealers and seeking community opinions on the left-handed model. He specifically asks for insights from owners and aficionados regarding its aesthetics, wearability, and how it compares to other green-dialed Rolex models like the 'Hulk.'

My AD who I have bought a handful of watches from has one sitting in the store but will not sell it me. Telling me they can’t sell it as Rolex requires them to keep a certain amount on display. I know of course if I bought some of their jewelry and lesser desired watches to go with it the circumstances would change — but oh well.

So on to other trusted sellers.

Thoughts on this model from aficionados and owners? Crown placement not an issue, just overall looks of the watch. Anyone own and let go of it from some reason — or like it so much that they wouldn’t ever part with it? I have been comparing it to the Hulk (yes looking for something green particularly) but just worried too much green and a bit too much shine in some lighting. Others feel this way as well?

Thanks in advance!

About the Rolex Submariner Date Ref. 116610LV

The Submariner Date reference 116610LV, introduced in 2010, is distinguished by its vibrant green dial and matching green Cerachrom bezel. This model replaced the previous 16610LV, known as the "Kermit," and marked a significant update to the Submariner line with its "Maxi Case" and ceramic bezel insert. It represents a modern interpretation of the Submariner, offering enhanced durability and a distinct aesthetic within the collection.

This reference features an Oystersteel case measuring 40mm in diameter, housing the automatic Caliber 3135. The movement provides a power reserve of approximately 48 hours. The watch is fitted with a sapphire crystal that includes a Cyclops lens over the date display, and it is water-resistant to 300 meters. The unidirectional rotating bezel is crafted from green Cerachrom ceramic, known for its scratch resistance and color stability.

Appealing to collectors interested in modern Rolex sports watches with a unique colorway, the 116610LV is often referred to as the "Hulk" due to its green coloration. It stands out from the more traditional black or blue Submariner models, offering a bolder visual presence. This reference was produced for a decade, becoming a notable entry in the Submariner's evolution before its discontinuation.

Never have and never will play the Rolex AD games

Especially the fact that you’ve given him business before (bought an handful of watches already) and he still will not sell it to you is a perfect example of a customer to business transaction that turns me off completely.

I have only tried it on but I liked it much more than I thought from the pictures.

Zsolt is an happy owner so hopefully he will chime in with proper observations. Will the dealer not even commit to sell it to you once they get more stock? As I understand it, most Rolex dealers get a monthly allocation of stock so I would have thought that your dealer would get another in-demand sports model to display before too long. All the best, Jon

Thank you Jon for the recommendation;)

Yes, I do own the lefty, bought it from my AD and I don’t play any type of games whatsoever
Now to the watch! I wasn’t sold on it initially, I thought its a bit “to green”, that’s why I sold my Hulk and replaced it with the Starbucks, but after wearing it for a while I realized that it’s not bad at all, let alone being a unique reference specially in the modern Rolex catalog, it’s a must have! I’ll admit that I’m a bit biased because I’m left handed, so I finally have a dedicated GMTII, which a
