Hi friends,

just back from France....

And as i was a bit low-key on the forms the last weeks... and on holiday i only checked the forums now and then....
and what do we see.....

Market talk, money talk,.. over and over again!!!!!!!!!!

Even guy's talking to us to sell all,.. because of the market will crash... and when the 1680 will drop from 4K to 2 K .... we will all loose the fun and magic in our watches.....
Bad talk,.. money talk,... cash,... low,...

Guy's where is the passion. Are we so far gone now,... that all that count's is the value???????????????????????????

Where is passion!

On my holiday i could spot one thread from Tom.... and he said true words!!!!!!

"They may not all be perfect or the flavor of the month but I get such tremendous satisfaction and pride from wearing and admiring them that their material value pales in comparison to how good they make me feel--you really can't put a price on that..."

Yes Tom,.. passion, magic, history,... devotion!!!!

That is Rolex. The guy's only putting value towards these watches... well guy's in truth you are 'poor'!
Poor, because you miss the right moments, the daily magic this watch might give you and the connection we can build with them... towards a point, that value is unimportant!!!!

Because the relationship is bigger then the profit.... we call it LOVE.
I feel sorry for you!

And guy's so lets share these moments, that bring these magic! The 'Rolex-Moments of 2008'.
The moments that gave the magic,... meeting of (new) friends,.. new watches...
Because sharing the passion, brings fun and friends!!!!!!

My highlights of 2008 where the meeting with the original owner of the 5517.
A moment i will never forget in meeting a nice and great men,... a GRAIL watch and sharing it with a great friend... Philipp who brought me into vintage Rolex and shared the day with the owner of the 5517!
Perfect.

And just before my vacation... when i went to London to get back the 5517 and catch my other grail... highest on my list the Big Crown.
The moment... just 30 seconds alone... enjoying the watch... feeling it the first time... before deciding to take it.
A small and lonesome moment of highest magic to me.

And the moment both watches where back on my wrist... how much better can it get?????? For me at least!!!

So guy's... share your Magical Rolex-Moment of 2008!!!!!
Let's celebrate our passion... and drop the money-talk ;-)

Best to you all,

Bernhard

About the Rolex Rolex Submariner Date Ref. 1680

The Rolex Submariner reference 1680 is notable as the first Submariner model to feature a date complication, marking a significant evolution for the line. Introduced in the late 1960s, it bridged the gap between the earlier no-date Submariners and later iterations, offering enhanced functionality while retaining the robust characteristics of the professional tool watch. This reference is distinguished by its single cyclops date magnifier on the crystal, a feature that would become a hallmark of many subsequent Rolex models.

This reference typically features a 40mm steel case, housing the self-winding Caliber 1575 movement. The movement provides a power reserve of approximately 48 hours. The crystal is acrylic, commonly referred to as Plexiglas, contributing to its vintage aesthetic. Water resistance for the 1680 is rated at 200 meters, consistent with its design as a reliable underwater instrument.

For collectors, the reference 1680 is highly sought after, particularly early examples with "Red Submariner" dials where the word "Submariner" is printed in red. These variants represent a distinct period in Rolex's production history and are prized for their rarity and aesthetic appeal. The 1680 appeals to those who appreciate the blend of historical significance, functional design, and the tangible qualities of vintage Rolex manufacturing.

Hi It has been more than a moment for me when I rediscovered the vintage Rolex passion. I went from zero to six in almost no time this year. I will have to gather the pix to complete this post. But yes it was all pure passion but I still respected the cost side of things. Thanks Bill
