ZSHSZ's recent acquisition of a Rolex Explorer II 'Polar' dial, shared in a forum post, offers a timely look at the enduring appeal of this reference. His experience highlights the unique relationships collectors build with their Authorized Dealers and the serendipitous nature of watch collecting. This article synthesizes community insights on the Explorer II's distinctive features and its place in Rolex's tool watch lineage.

Stopped by my AD to drop of my GMT II to have it sort it out, and we chatted about the journeys and adventures I had with it since he sold it to me.
After I took the watch of my wrist he asked if I have another watch with me, to which I replied NO!
He excused himself for a minute and came back with this and said:
You need another watch for your travels and can’t have you walk around without a proper watch for itsmile))
So he pulled out this!
I couldn’t say no, since I wanted an Explorer II for a long, long time, so it finally happened!
Fits like a glove!
I’m ready for adventurewink))

I love the polar Explorer II. I already try it at my AD but the 42mm case with theses lugs are a little too big for my wrist. What a shame! So I really need to visit once again my AD 😂

Actually this case is shorter but the dial is bigger due to the slimmed down bezel. One should always visit their AD, you never know…😜

It sure feels great to be able to walk in a shop and pick up exactly what you want!
