Subexplorer shares his appreciation for his Rolex Submariner Ref. 16613, affectionately known as the 'bluesy' Submariner. He highlights the unique and mesmerizing deep cobalt blue dial, emphasizing its distinctiveness compared to other blue dials, including newer Rolex models.
Starting my week with my bluesy Submariner on my wrist. (Ref 16613)
I feel there is no other watch or brand offering such an awesome blue color on its dial like in this discontinued model.
The blue is a deep cobalt hue with a soleil patern which changes its shades as it plays with daylight. Mesmerizing!!
Have a great week my friends!!
Cheers! Abel

The Rolex Cellini reference 16613 is a distinct model within the Cellini collection, known for its focus on dress watch aesthetics rather than the sportier designs often associated with the brand. This reference typically features a more refined and understated presence, aligning with traditional horological elegance. It represents a segment of Rolex's production dedicated to classic design principles and formal wear, offering an alternative to the Oyster Perpetual line. The Cellini series, in general, emphasizes precious metals and a more traditional watchmaking approach.
This particular reference is characterized by its case construction, often incorporating gold, which contributes to its luxurious appeal. The movement housed within is a mechanical caliber, designed for precision and reliability, consistent with Rolex's manufacturing standards. The crystal protecting the dial is typically sapphire, providing durability and scratch resistance. The dimensions of the case are generally modest, suitable for a dress watch, ensuring a comfortable fit under a shirt cuff.
For collectors, the Cellini 16613 appeals to those seeking a less common Rolex reference with a focus on classic design and precious materials. It stands apart from the brand's more ubiquitous sports models, offering a different facet of Rolex's heritage. Variants within the Cellini line often include different dial finishes and case configurations, providing options for discerning collectors interested in the brand's dress watch offerings.
... but some few years ago I bought it when it was announced its discontinuation and replacement by the new blue model in ceramic. I felt it was my last chance to own such a beautiful dial when a good friend at a local AD told me he had a last example of this reference brand new in stock at an attractive price. The little touches of gold add warmth to the watch and the blue dial has to be admired in the metal to really appreciate its charm. it looks much better with a nice tan on the skin. I own
Always amazed how good it looks. Hope one day I'll have a sample of my own Cheers D
I have allways been a fan of this model . Enjoy π€
