Subexplorer's post beautifully illustrates the passion collectors have for the subtle nuances that define vintage timepieces, specifically his Rolex Submariner Ref. 5508. His journey to find period-correct components, like a bracelet from 1959, highlights how small details can significantly enhance a watch's authenticity and personal appeal. This article underscores the enduring charm of vintage Rolex and the rewarding pursuit of horological perfection.

... and we collectors and watch fanciers enjoy so much those little aspects in our timepieces.

I got this 5508 of 1958 vintage some months ago, and showed it here a few days after my purchase. It came with a nice riveted Oyster bracelet, very tight and in good condition.  But It was marked with a date of early 1960´s though.

I wished to improve some details of my new watch, and after I got a nice set of hands matching the index  lume, I begun searching for another bracelet.

I was fortunate to get this other bracelet a few days ago. It is not as tight as the previous Oyster, but it is marked 1959... and the bonus...
is in the closing links.

I feel it looks much better now! I hope you agree!
Have a great week end friends!
Very cordially, Abel.

About the Rolex Submariner Ref. 5508

The Rolex Submariner reference 5508 represents the No Date series within the Submariner model range. Produced from 1958 to 1962, this reference is distinguished by its black dial that has developed spider patina over time.

The 5508 features a 37mm stainless steel case fitted with an acrylic crystal and rotating bezel. Water resistance is rated to 200 meters. The automatic Cal. 1530 movement provides 42-48 hours of power reserve. The watch is paired with a steel bracelet.

This reference appeals to collectors focused on vintage Submariner variants from the late 1950s and early 1960s production period. The spider patina dial condition represents a specific aging characteristic that develops over decades. Within the No Date Submariner lineup, the 5508 occupies the position of a four-year production run reference with the Cal. 1530 movement.

Rather than adding some new pièces, hunting some elements which will improve the appeal of my existing watches. Or goodies, to achieve the sets. My God, Abel, your 5508 is just somptuous! You make me want, EVEN MORE, to find the correct insert for mine! Un fuerte abrazo, my " bloody " friend. ;) Nicolas

you are really giving all the best to this one. Not to mention price but this bracelet is 4 x the price of a nice 7206 which is the standard option. Bravo to you to capture this one. Best Bill

First, the watch is superb. But congratulations to you on making it even more wonderful to you. Those who own this reference understand how much charm and character it has...it needs to be worn and "lived" to understand it. Fantastic
