Hello friends!

I wish to share with my friends here, my last catch. A 5513 Submariner.

I have told before about my first Rolex, here: it was a present from my parents for my 18th birthday in 1966.

A 5513 which I have been dreaming with since I was almost a child. I lost that beloved watch during an armed robbery I suffered in 1977, and though my nice wifey replaced that 5513 with a surprise present of a 1680, a few days after the loss (I still keep that 1680), I could never replace nor forget that 5513.

Some years ago, I got a 1978 5513, a run of the mill Submariner, which I like very much, but has not the charm of my first one. I kept looking for something special.

Now I have found one example that, hough not having the sentimental value of that watch presented by my parents so long ago, has some of  its gorgeous look:
Gloss dial, gilt markings, low underline and double T<25 markings. Of course, it got a riveted Oyster bracelet, just as my old watch.

Inside case markings show  III 64 made, and the original guarantee which came with this timepice, shows it was sold in March 1965.

I´m happy with this catch as you can well understand.  I wish you´ll like it!

Best cordial regards, Abel.

About the Rolex Submariner Ref. 5513

The Rolex Submariner reference 5513 is a notable example within the Submariner line, distinguished by its two-line dial and lack of a date complication. Produced for an extended period, it represents a core offering for collectors seeking a straightforward and robust tool watch. Its design emphasizes legibility and functionality, aligning with the original purpose of the Submariner series. This reference is recognized for its consistent aesthetic throughout its production run, with subtle variations in dial text and bezel inserts.

The watch features a 40mm stainless steel Oyster case, offering durability and water resistance suitable for its intended use. Powering the reference 5513 is the automatic Caliber 1520 movement, known for its reliability. The crystal is acrylic, contributing to the vintage character of the watch. The unidirectional rotating bezel, typically with an aluminum insert, allows for elapsed time measurement.

For collectors, the reference 5513 is a significant model due to its long production history and the various dial iterations, such as gilt and matte dials, which present distinct collecting opportunities. Its appeal lies in its foundational design and its position as a non-date Submariner, making it a desirable piece for those who appreciate the model's original form. The watch is often paired with an Oyster bracelet, completing its functional aesthetic.

The information is also lining up very well. The swiss only gilt puts it in the 1963 range. By going to the next level in the transition the double swiss "white and gilt" and you example with the double printing t<25 in white shows the progression rolling into 1964 and the start of the swiss - t>25 gilt dials. This one finds perfectly into the sequence. The underline gives it another touch and confirmation of the time period. I know this is all technical sounding but it is great to see exa

Hey Abel, Now I am jealous... Not only you got a quite rare 5513, but also it is magnificient ( what a sublime orange patina of the indexes ! ) and from... 1964!!! The last photo of the 5513, on The Louvre, is great, it looks and it is very sensual. If I had to get one Gilt Sub, it could well be one like this or a Caramel dial... BRAVO, Dexter. ;) Un fuerte abrazo. Nicolas

the "superdome" lume is really typical from the early 1960's. I love the orange color of the printings.

... information about this variation of 5513. Yes, it is very interesting to observe how these nice reference was changing through the years. Watch was original sold in a Buenos Aires Rolex AD, in March 1965, and being made in III 1964 as per case back, together with serial number range 1.17x.xxx signed in case and in original Guarantee card, closes well this configuration. I´m glad to know you like it, and of course sharing it here adds to the enjoyment of the catch. Best cordial regards, Abel.
