bernard cheong presents a thought-provoking comparison between Seiko and Greubel Forsey, challenging conventional perceptions of luxury and craftsmanship. His post uses macro photography to highlight the intricate details of both brands, advocating for a focus on dedication and artistry over brand status.
Of course a SEIKO is not a Greubel Forsey.
True to my old self, I try not to look at a brand.
The debt of sacrifice paid by devoted pursuit of setting a record that others would find a decade or an era to define, just to be better than what was made by Greubel Forsey....likewise, in another culture, Seiko reigns supreme, even without the Grand Seiko brand.
I wished I wrote better.
English is not my native language.
I wished I could share better...without being boastful.
But like I said, the folks who can own a Greubel Forsey...they have exceeded Richard Mille, just like Seiko exceeds Casio in its pursuit.
There is no doubt an RM excels.
But the Greubel Forsey, well...it was like the first time we saw Dufour, and the first time I was very convinced, and still am, that art is finally both portable and can be immortal, tough, preserved.
Below..after the 10 pics. I wrote some things...for what it's worth.

Well, below we see 2004 and 2009 Greubel Forseys and a 2002 Parmigiani with an obvious Three Bridge in disguise...
Executed with the fervor of Dufour and the dedicated defiance of Vianney and of URWERK.
Defiance.
That's me.
If it is also you...and if you, like me..are defiant to allow the public to be informed, we have succeeded beyond my own dreams.
In 2002, I thought the Freak and the Antiqua, and the Opus projects with MB&F, then known as a part of Harry Winston...well, today, the era Max created will be history.
He deserves more than a statue.
HWRT has more money to put more into creation.
But the world works better if there comes a time to stop making, but to consolidate, and to inform the world.
I just feel we have come very far, and too fast.
Just a tad slower, Rolex and Patek style.
Omega has sort of got it.
Look at the Hublots.
I don't like AP. But there is nothing wrong...just that it panders.
I don't kiss ass.
But...I am happy with friends.
The Seikos, and the new variants this 2015.
They are the Greubels of the East.
Made with extremely different economies.
I live here, and I just get it. Trust me.
I love Seikos as much.
What ever, we need much more customers, more people, not more products.
We do need a sense of values. We don't need envy. We need friendly, cooperative cooperation , among the advertisers who create websites and magazines.
We need friends. This hobby, which I enjoy...present tense, since 1973...it's got so huge.
I am primarily responsible for making it unfriendly. For that ignorant act...I am sorry.
I apologize.
But we can rebuild ...I cannot be that influential. I am just another cloaca.
But there are no cretins here...none. Just too many short sighted, insecure, eager to "equalize" people...and I am one too.
When I studied Seiko...I was ashamed that I did not champion them enough.
Instead, I chose the ultimate. The incredible. Unaffordable even among the wealthy.
Greubel Forseys are, when I saw them in 2004...the very best, but it does not yell "money". Brands like that get the awards, but not the girls.
You will not see status symbols if I can avoid them. You will see, I hope, in my macromania series...icons of the worthy. Investments. Yes...like Hannibal Lecter, I believe in the very best.
Status is now off limits for me. I don't deserve it. By saying so....I am not putting it down. I want status. Just as all do.
But we may have to think about this.
I hope I didn't cause another ruckus.

But i'm not sure to get your point. Seiko is a great manufacturer, from cheap entry levels to minute repeater, but their task (or mission, as all the companies love to tell us ) is to provide the best quality at the best price. Did you know that the GS was not imported in Italy? i think it's since the beginning of this year that someone did realize it was the time to sell overseas. I have had many watches, sold everything, now i wear a seiko 5. totally happy. I don't agree when you talk about th
I was looking for that word: a sub brand. It is a good thing. If ever I wanted to make money, better than my own way, it will not be watches...I don't think its that easy. I agree with points below. It's not investments for 99.9%. But none of us here are in the 90%. So only 9.9% of the total represented here will loose money over 3 decades. That said...hmmm...to be a sub brand is the highest honor. Just imagine...someone as large and as powerful as Richemont wishes to buy your stuff...so much th
I took them back...whew. But...it could have gone either way. As for Greubel Forsey's look...no comments. BUT. I like the way it is so..err British. More so than say...a George Daniels. And he would be proud. See..I look at both men, the GF guys,,,they came from ground zero. I have known poverty...not in relative terms, but absolute. Many Singaporeans are like that...we have that chip on our shoulder. I wish I could conquer it. But I am far from a good person..at least, that's how I feel...and t
low on the body, it feels solid, heavy. High, and it feels 5x lighter.
Why is it I can't get one?
