Benlee338 celebrates the completion of his Seiko Presage trilogy with the acquisition of the limited Blue Enamel Dial Presage, joining his Starlight and Sunburst models. As all of you are aware, a series of recent new pressage watches with exquisite blue dials has caused an avalanche of incoming in Seiko Purist Pro forum. And thoroughly well deserved as for the price, it's unbeatable in terms of value and the joy it brought to the owners, myself included, I find myself wearing my pressage more and more. And I am pleased to add the latest Pressage, the limited Blue Enamel Dial Pressage that of course, everyone has already seen lots of wonderful pics. Regardless, here it goes!
Quick thoughts about this watch... As expected, the blue enamel dial is what everyone has been singing praise about, rich, deep, and takes on various shades of color ranging from dark blue to indigo to pitch black depending on lighting. The watch is slightly larger the my other two Pressage, ie the starlight and the sunburst, giving it a more sporty appearance. It also feature a sapphire front and back display with an open caseback and come complete with a blue leather strap. The watch wears comfortably, although I can't get a good fit to my wrist, it wears either slightly too tight or too loose. Maybe a strap change will solve the problem. The watch has great attention to detail, and is very well made especially for the price. Inspired by the moon, the second hand even features a granulated crescent moon on it. Granted, it's an extremely photogenic watch. It even comes in a special box. It will be interesting to do a comparison with my way more expensive Blue Enamel UN watch later on.
If there is one aspect I don't like about the watch is the open caseback. While the watch is equipped with Seiko's very accomplished 6R15D which is very pleasing to wind, the movement itself is devoid of any decoration or finishing. Not that I hold this against the watch or are expecting it considering the price, but it would have been better in my opinion to just make it a close-caseback and shave a few mm off the thickness. Also, I would have preferred the watch comes with a screw down crown as I see this watch as more sporty than dress watch although generally speaking, enamel dial watches tends to be dress watch. But all these are minor complaints. Watches like this makes me questioned again the relative value of Swiss watch brands and are they just charging higher price for the name? The Seiko Blue Enamel is just about perfect and the only thing missing will be the snob appeal of Swiss watches.
