Cazalea shares a delightful photo essay featuring a recent acquisition, a vintage Seiko SQ, against the picturesque backdrop of a San Diego morning. This post beautifully intertwines the joy of discovering an unexpected horological gem with the simple pleasures of a waterfront stroll, capturing both the watch's charm and the serene environment.

Today's watch has been in my possession about 15 hours, after arriving in the post last night.

I just bought it for the movement inside (I needed some spare parts) but when it showed up it was far better than I had expected for $35. So the SQ with high-corner crystal came walking today.

Mrs C always says "Get a room" when she sees this famous sculpture.

Just around the corner famous entertainer Bob Hope was performing for a group of seamen at Balboa Naval Hospital

I wasn't aware he did sunrise gigs, but he always went out of his way to bring laughs and hope of better times, to the troops around the world. A message we all can appreciate nowadays.

A solitary heron waited for the sun to rise.

as did one fisherman, hunched over at the end of the pier. He hadn't caught anything by the time we got there.

I just missed the final descent of this pelican, but I caught the landing

and his taxi back

An empty restaurant, victim of the times. Its roof is covered with sea birds who took off in a hurry

when this long-tailed hawk left his camouflaged perch and headed over their way.

We turned our attention back to the shore and Mrs C invited us onto the wharf to watch a ship unloading a few small fish.

Turning back towards our car, we joined the increasing horde of walkers, joggers, runners

Wanderers

and those who have gone before us.

I finally noticed that my watch was 12 hours behind (not having paid any attention last night).

Oops.

Here we go.

Please wear your gold (or gold-tone) Seikos!

I spend all my time at my desk these days and outside is raining and dull weather. You live in a wonderful place and climate. Very cool watch you got. Amazing for 35 bucks. A real scoop!

The one I am wearing has a quartz movement that's not being made anymore, and I need to fix another watch. The one at the end belongs to a watchmaker pal, and he won't sell it to me (I just asked again today). If I remember correctly, he bought it from a customer who had worked for many years for Seiko and was given this watch by the company (or bought it while he was there). Here's the inside:

Looks like a seventies watch? Any bet, Mike, you’ve got more company on your early morning walks than you might think. For me it’s always like a small journey to SoCal; a short trip away from my every day madness in grey and cold Holland. Especially like your bird shots, like that mighty Pelican. Keep them coming, Mike. Regards, George
