Tudor Heritage Ranger & Black Bay, let´s focus on those two novelties – together with some selected vintage pieces to understand the roots, or just for the pleasure of looking.

This year for the first time, I had the pleasure to attend one of their presentations and even more interesting to meet some of the people behind. To make it short, they are very serious about what they are doing and they did a very good job to work off their history in watchmaking – more on this later.

Philippe-E. Peverelli, Managing Director

Davide Cerrato, Global Creative Director

Those two gentlemen are the main drivers of today, but they are not the only people inside (which I already met yet) with lots of passion for watches and finer things in live. Passion – I like smile

In the past, the man behind was H. Wilsdorf, which I would like to quote here:

“For some years now, I have been considering the idea of making a watch that our agents could sell at a more modest price than our Rolex watches, and yet one that would attain the standard of dependability for which Rolex is famous. I decided to form a separate company, with the object of making and marketing this new watch. It is called the Tudor watch company.”

A more modest price, this is something we don´t see very often these days – even when we have seen several brands at Baselworld/SIHH which tried to offer at least one “more modest priced” watch or even collection. Quite a few novelties with more or less strong roots to vintage pieces have been shown in as well. The latter almost felt like a main topic for Baselworld/SIHH 2014 – vintage all around.

Neither the more modest price or the vintage part are new for Tudor and I think it is a strong part of their success, especially these days.

So, let´s (finally) have a look what they had on offer this time.

Inspired by a historic model, also named Ranger , which the brand produced in the late 1960s, this new model embodies the unique creative approach developed by TUDOR to showcase its heritage in 2010 with the launch of its Heritage Chrono. Far from being a mere re-edition, it is a distinct reinterpretation, a true temporal and stylistic encounter of past, present and future. The 41mm steel case with satin finish is bigger than its vintage predecessors, but appropriate for today. Inside we have th

Heritage Black Bay "blue" - for some it is a novelty and for others it is just another version with blue bezel instead of a red one. The red one was already introduced two years ago and it was nothing less than awarded with the “Revival” category prize by the jury of the 2013 Grand Prix d´Horlogerie de Genéve . I much prefer the look of the latest one. It just looks closer to the original one (especially if we talk about Tudor divers for the French navy during the 2 nd half of the 20 th century)

... just for your pleasure. For those which are interested in more details about the history of the brand and their watches I would like to recommend a book which was done by Tudor and shown in Basel. It would be nice to see more books like this, from other brands as well. Once more, bravo! Thanks to the team from Tudor for their warm welcome! Oliver

A great summary of these new vintage re-editions. I actually like this version of the heritage black bay (the blue/black) as opposed to the previous red. The only problem is, when I then see a M.N. it reminds me that I would actually prefer the original more!!! Thanks for sharing. Cheers Tony

... for your efforts and time tu put together this information, great photography and your personal view of each of these new models. I love the trend Tudor has taken in the last years, with the offering ot these recreations of past classics. As a matter of fact, I already own two of them (the Black Bay -red bezel- and the Heritage Chrono gray dial). The new Ranger is my next target. I like it very much, including the classic "rotor self winding" semi circular inscription on dial. I´ll be buying

I totally agree with you, Tudor did an awesome job on the collection for some years, now... 4, 5? One we never, or almost, discuss in the Advisor. A very interesting calibre, born from the collaboration between Rolex AND Tudor. Then, the charming series of Heritage Chronos, the Black Bay, and this year, the Ranger. They perpetuate the spirit of the brand, through years, which is, basiacally, charm and reliability. This year, if things go well for me, I will buy 3 or 4 watches. Certainly a Tudor,
