Friends, recently I have brought back from the vault,
two little treasures, I truly cherish, which didn't get too much
air-and wristtime lately..

Without further ado, here they are:

My Tudor Prince Little Rose, all Gilt on a black dial , from 50ies,
really a pretty cool Black Timepiece. The gilt writing & of all indices
and also of the Dauphine hands make a really serene, almost a bit mysterious appeal.
Wearing comfort is truly comfy and the smaller size still renders a very
attractive presence..

Then the Rolex Tru Beat, Ref 6556, the Rolex version of a "Dead Second",
in the case of a 34mm Oyster from ~ 1956, with a 1040 movement.
A charming silver dial, with just long indices & the nice contrast
of a red second hand..

Thus, taking them on the wrist revives the pleasure,
suggesting to me to share it here:

Both clean, pure & classic

Although only 34 in DM, both nicely wear larger, due to small bezels

Sometimes, small things really contribute to the overall balanced, often elegant appeal

Thanks for looking in advance &
Have a great week, all !

Best, hs smile smile

About the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Ref. 6556

The Rolex Oyster Perpetual Reference 6556, known as the Tru-Beat, represents a distinct offering within Rolex's mid-20th century catalog. Introduced around 1956, this model is notable for its dead-beat seconds complication, a feature that sets it apart from the continuously sweeping seconds hands characteristic of most Rolex movements. It was reportedly developed for medical professionals who required precise one-second interval timing.

The Reference 6556 features a 35mm Oyster case, typically crafted from stainless steel, housing the automatic Caliber 1040 movement. This specific caliber was engineered to provide the dead-beat seconds function, where the seconds hand advances in distinct, discrete steps rather than a smooth sweep. The watch maintains the Oyster Perpetual's robust construction and self-winding convenience, combined with this specialized timing mechanism.

For collectors, the Tru-Beat Reference 6556 is significant due to its rarity and its unusual complication within the Rolex lineage. Its departure from the brand's typical horological approach makes it a compelling piece for those interested in the more experimental or specialized aspects of Rolex's history. Examples with the original Caliber 1040 movement intact are particularly sought after.

Not as pretty as your set but just as much fun. These two old boys are alarm watches. Again not getting wrist time but a pleasure for the eyes. Bill

But the Tru Beat movement of the Rolex just adds so much appeal in my eyes to make it the overall winner for me Some true gems you have there! Back from the South yet?
