although, to me this illustrates a perfect example of a highly refined "gravure", it is not what I would describe as a perfectly suitable wrist watch dial. The case and lugs on the hand are absolutely magnificent. Thank you for the, as usual, beautiful picture. Cheers Francois from Down Under.
..obviously:) What I mean is that I find the 2 Art Forms, Horology and Gravure, clashing or fighting for attention in this instance. The gravure on the dial distracts from the Horological Art of Measuring Time, in my opinion. A gravure on a watch case, as on a Reverso for example, is fine, even delicious, but not on the dial. It's a little bit like listening to a minute repeater with a military marching band parading in from of you, not really the best way to appreciate the delicate chiming soun
I know GLau will like this! :) I love the craftsmanship of such art pieces and imho the UN Chinese zodiac series is very well made and reasonably priced (for that level of craftsmanship). I have seen 2 specimens before on the snake and dragon (both owned by Gordon) and I must say I am very impressed with them. cheers robin
