quattro's comprehensive overview of the Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Manuel ref. 82172 showcases a significant achievement in three-hand dress watches. This article delves into the various iterations of this 38mm reference, highlighting its consistent elegance and the esteemed Caliber 4400 AS movement. quattro's detailed presentation, featuring numerous examples from 2009 to 2023, provides an invaluable resource for collectors and enthusiasts alike.

The Patrimony Contemporaine Bi-Retrograde reference 82172 represents Vacheron Constantin's interpretation of retrograde complications within the Patrimony Contemporaine series. This reference distinguishes itself through its bi-retrograde function, offering dual retrograde displays on the dial face.
The watch features a 42.5mm case crafted in 18k rose gold with a fixed bezel configuration. A silver dial sits beneath sapphire crystal, while an automatic movement powers the complications. The case offers 30 meters of water resistance, positioning it for dress watch applications rather than sports usage.
Reference 82172 appeals to collectors seeking complicated dress watches with traditional precious metal construction. The 42.5mm case size accommodates contemporary sizing preferences while the rose gold case material and silver dial combination provides classical color coordination. The bi-retrograde complication adds mechanical interest beyond standard time display functions, targeting collectors who appreciate visible complications in formal timepieces.
I have been tempted more than once, it doesn't hurt that it's also a bit more affordable than offering from PP.
an Excellence Platine watch this song plays in my head ππ....
The lack of hacking seconds and the screwed back that almost never aligns correctly is what kills this watch for me. If it had those, I'd buy one and its variants in a flash. The caseback problem I illustrate below: Notice how the Vacheron and Constantin names almost line up and that Swiss Made is perfectly positioned at the bottom, and the PdG on the movement is aligned with the Maltese cross on the case. I know I'm particular, but that's why I love the pressed-in caseback on my Bathyscaphe: it
for me with the 82172, particularly its (regular) platinum version. One fine day... Cheers Marc
So many excellent iterations but the gold case with guilloche dial takes the top spot for me. Thanks for posting. M4
Iβm always tempted every time I see it.
