ArmisT's Vacheron Constantin Cornes de Vache (CdV) chronograph sparks a compelling discussion among collectors, prompting a deep dive into its standing among the world's finest chronographs. This article explores why the CdV's movement and design continue to captivate enthusiasts, inviting readers to consider its place in the horological pantheon. ArmisT's initial query about the CdV's ranking serves as a springboard for a nuanced examination of high-end chronographs.

Looking at this piece and its movement prompts me to ask where does the CdV rank in the list of top chronos…top 3? top 5?   Another chrono that ranks high in my mind is the ALS Datograph. I’m sure there’s other clear winners, but CdV is tops for now.

It would of course depend on the people that take part in such a survey. To your point, ultimately all that matters in the end is what each person likes.

I expected the ranking comment to be controversial, but I bet an actual survey would reveal some real treasures.

I’d only be thinking about my ranking because I’m so selfish I don’t care what others think 😂. Joking a little. lol.

beautiful strap pairing. As you know, I love my CdV too and I chose it over the 1815 Chrono, which was for me the real contender. And, still now, these are the two currently available chronos that sit on top of my personal pantheon. But it’s very subjective and there are some wonderful timepieces from other brands (Patek’s 5172 or Montblanc 1858 Minerva, for example, and probably many others I forget to mention). Best, Emmanuel
