Samwan recounts his experience at a star-studded Vacheron Constantin dinner celebrating the Grand Opening of their Landmark Prince's boutique. His post captures the essence of a luxury watch event, from the exclusive exhibition of tonneau-shaped timepieces to a Michelin 3-star dining experience. Samwan shares personal insights into the evening's ambiance and culinary delights, culminating with a wristshot of his own Vacheron Constantin Chronomètre Royal 1907.
I was fortunate to be invited a plush dinner hosted by Vacheron Constantin (one of my favorite brands) in celebration of the Grand Opening of the VC Boutique at Landmark Prince's last evening. The event was officiated by Juan-Carlos Torres, CEO for VC and dinner was co-hosted by HSBC Private Bank. Venue is none other than the spectacular penthouse on the 41st floor of the HSBC Headquarters Building. VC events are always classily executed. Needless to say, it was a formal, black-tie occasion.
Cocktail was held at the boutique. On display was an exhibition for the '100th Anniversary of Tonneau Shaped Watch' featuring some remarkable historical tonneau-shaped timepieces (stupid of me....no pictures). The VC people were hiding the goodies! We have to ask the staff to bring out exceptional pieces like the "Caliber 2755 in Platinum" and the LE Overseas Perpetual Chrono (love the yellow hands against the gray background...again, no pictures
)
MC for the evening was the very elegant and beautiful model Vanessa Yeung:

We were soon treated to a sumptuous dinner prepared by Michelin 3-star chef Alain Passard, who flew in from France for the occasion. He is the owner of the world-renowned L'Arpege restaurant in Paris.
First course was:
Chaud-froid of egg with spices, accompanied by
Les Hauts de Smith blanc 2011

This was followed by:
Green and red crabs in sweet and sour sauce with a turnip transparency (sorry I ate half of the dish before remembering to take a picture
)
Chateau Smoth Haut Lafitte Blanc 2010

Mushroon veloute with peanuts
Le petit Haut Lafitte rouge 2009

The splendid setting... two long tables each named after the VC founders - in stark contrast to the avant garde setting of the HSBC Building designed by Sir Norman Foster. The room has exceptionally high ceilings and offers a magnificient view of the Victoria Harbour (no picture of that either)

Highlight of the evening (IMO) -
Brittany Lobster with Hua Dioa wine, Chinese cabbage and smoked potatoes
Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte rouge 2007

This post will not be compete without the picture of at least one watch - a wrist shot of my humble Chronometre Royal 1907...

Now the main course...
Roasted duck, beetroot in a grey salt crust with a fig tree oil
Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte rouge 1991

Flanked on stage by Mr. Juan-Carlos Torres from VC and Mr. Bernard Rennell, CEO for HSBC Private Bank North Asia

The finale...
Celeriac and dark chocolate creme brulee

Petit Fours

I hope you all enjoyed the pictures, but must apologize for the horrible pictures taken with my mobile phone...
Sam
for your report. If it was anything like the events that Vacheron Constantin executed for the grand opening of their New York boutique then you had a very special evening out! Bill
And the CR is certainly a good choice, Sam. Thanks for the post. Best, Nicolas
Thanks for sharing. That CR is perfect for the occasion IMO. Simple & elegant! Fernando
Love your "humble" CR 1907. Best, respo
Would love to see more pictures of your gorgeous CR 1907 :-)
Here is an earlier post... amp;fi=14&pi=2888221&ti=482426&msid=&s = Best Sam
