Friends, Some of you may know, that one of my center
points in my humble current "collection" always have been
more sportive, yet classy & low-key pieces.
Low key, but not less attractive ; quite a bit of the central spots are covered
by my Rolex series : Submariners, 1680, several 5513s and as well
some Explorers (6610 & 1655) and as central pieces, the GMTs 1675, 16750
and foremost my 6542, with the rather rare Bakelite bezel, all in good condition.
It's obvious that those vintage marvels, when taken out need some more
care and are really no objects for more rough tasks, facing serious hardships of
daily wear & tear.
Further to that, my 2 JLC DSAs (EU & US), the Polaris, several Amvoxes,
plus few Omega Speedies & Seamasters & a nice Vintage Railmaster,
plus some GPs consitute my inclination to more unobtrusive, yet IMO
still very nice objects.
One more recent issue or segment of interest had been becoming more obvious
and has now slided into the center of my attention. These have become blue dialled
sportive watches, some in the Vintage Memovox field (JLC E875, E 876),
but also the modern new marvels ( eg the end of last year arrival, the Blue
Master Memovox, introduced in 2016).
Enough background intro here - me wife and I were recently invited to a very nice
Watches & Juwelry Day taking place in a not too far away castle, organized
by my main multi-brand Austrian AD, who is also operating the JLC Boutique
in Vienna, which is one of my main playing grounds..
Several brands, mainly from the Richemont group were there, also
each with enough watches from the recently introduced or still relevant
interesting specimens of the different brands.
What I wanted to see in real, were several specific pieces: I wanted to
have another „in real“ look at the JLC Reverso Tribute Duoface in blue, a model
I had been encircling quite a bit, during some months already.. Hmmhh..
So we started there, and also my wife pretty spontanously had decided to look
for an evening or a bit more dressy Reverso model, in addition to her dear
YG/ss Reverso classique.
But my own & personal main emphasis lay in having a comparative view
on the new Laureato 81010 models, 42 & 38 mm. The second focus remaining for me
was seeing and trying the also rather recently introduced VC Overseas model,
a watch, that for me, since I had seen pictures, ( Thx Fovesta !), was a very
attractive offer, for a universal sports watch with enough design codes of elegance & balance. Enough to have awakened my definite interest.
— Well, ahemm, letting the prize range for the VC pretty much aside; for the moment at least,
and in the first round, especially when compared with the GP Laureato 42 & 38mm,
which are roughly half of the RSP
Seeing & trying the Laureato series of my friends CC & Blomman, had indeed
triggered enough curiousity to give this GP Laureato family & collection
a serious & more detailed look than before.
Thus I’ll start with my little pictorial, which is not to be considered a formal
review, but something sort of a fact finding mission for my own watch lover’s brain
and heart. - I had no initial direct apprehension to buy one of the mentioned above,
but wanted to experience, if one of the objects of desire mentioned, made my heart
beat faster. - Am pretty sure, you know that phenomenon..
First some JLC Impressions, also with the women’s model, my wife was trying;
next came the blue Reverso, Tribute Duoface and then finally, a quick glimpse
through the blue Sports watches and their on the wrist impression.

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox reference E875 represents a notable iteration of the alarm watch series, distinguished by its specific design elements and production period. This reference is recognized for its integration of the alarm function within a robust case, characteristic of the brand's mid-century technical advancements in wristwatches. It stands as a key example of the Memovox line's evolution, offering both practicality and a distinctive aesthetic that appeals to collectors interested in functional complications.
This particular reference typically features a stainless steel case, housing a self-winding movement. The case diameter is commonly found around 37mm, a size that was prevalent for men's watches during its era of production. The watch is powered by the Jaeger-LeCoultre Caliber 916, a high-beat automatic movement with a power reserve of approximately 45 hours. The crystal is generally acrylic, protecting a dial that often includes a rotating central disc for setting the alarm.
The E875 is sought after by collectors who appreciate the technical ingenuity of the Memovox alarm mechanism combined with a classic watch design. Its appeal lies in its reliable automatic movement and the distinctive sound of its mechanical alarm. The reference contributes to the broader narrative of Jaeger-LeCoultre's horological contributions, showcasing the brand's commitment to developing useful complications for everyday wear.
I know your heart is telling you to go for the Overseas, but that Laureato 38 looks fantastic on your wrist! Tough choice indeed! Thanks for sharing, Alex
.. it still needs some digesting and deliberating.. And then...
.. I love the Soleille side of the case as well. It also is interesting, that the case measurements are very much alike to earlier formats, with the classical dinensions it comes, IMO. ( 42,9x25,5/ height 9mm) For now, my modern Reverso Quartet is "perfect" for me: Rev Calendar = sportive, casual Reverso TT 1931 = extravagant & elegant, Reverso Gde GMT = useful travel companion Reverso Tribute Duo = Very cool balance & sophistication Thx for your kind looking ! Best, hs
... and some of them Grail pieces for me! (e.g. 6542, the FF and the vintage Type XX among others) The Reverso collection you show is superb. This is a classic which crowns your collection. And the blue dial department shows several beauties. The Laureato and the Overseas are big temptations of course. I´m feeling that sooner or later both will enter one by one in your collection. In any case I wish you´ll keep enjoying these superb collection in the best of good health my friend!! All the best!
.. for heart, desire (& wallet). - But you may be right, - Not now, does nor mean never !. But this comparison of the two blue ladies, VC Overseas vs Laureato 80110 does not make the decision easier.. Chouces - choices !.. Well, let it sit there & digest. - Sooner or later, one of the 2 will prevail. - If only that RSP list price of the VC wouldn't actually not be close to double the GP ! - And that is sort of a premium, which one needs to weigh in properly.. Pretty sure, I might find out in the
... Yes, I guess every collector will face your dilemma many times along our long journey through this fascinating world of watches. Of course we can´t get everything we would love to own, and of course our wallet have a bottom too! So... patience, waiting and planning ... and day dreaming are our tools of the trade! Well, as said, I´m sure sooner or later one or them (or why not both?) will arrive some day in a near future. In the meantime enjoy your wonderful collection in the best of good hea
