BGM's post highlights a common dilemma for collectors: identifying and servicing vintage family heirlooms. His experience with an old ladies' Omega, for which even the brand boutique struggled to provide local assistance, underscores the challenges and costs associated with maintaining historical timepieces and the value of community expertise.

Hi all,

Whilst recently doing a clean-up, my Mum found an old Omega ladies watch.  It has obviously had a hard life and isn’t currently running.  Unfortunately, no-one in the family can actually explain where it came from or provide any background information!

Front of the watch - signs of a hard life

I recently dropped my Dad’s vintage Seamaster (it was his 21st present back in ’67) into the Sydney Omega Boutique for a mechanical service and to get some damage fixed, so took the watch along to seek answers.  After a few days I received a call back saying that they couldn’t do anything with the watch locally and it would need to be send to Switzerland to even be diagnosed – minimum cost AU$700…..

Rear of the watch - marks also left from cheap watch bands

Given I don’t have any details about the watch what-so- ever, I declined to send it.  With the lack of family knowledge of the piece, my initial thought actually was that it may have been a fake picked up for “grandchildren’s dress-ups” somewhere down the line.

Can any of you Omega fans identify this watch?  Does anyone know where I might possibly find more information about it or the Calibre used?

Profile of watch

The memories and historical significance attached to my Dad’s watch meant we didn’t flinch at spending more than this to repair his Seamaster but given we don’t have any connection with this ladies watch, I’m not sure about fixing it and if it (I hate to use these words when discussion my watch passion) makes financial sense to do so……..

Thanks for any help or advice you can offer!

Regards,

BGM

Hi BGM But with that said, 700 AUD for service via Omega Bienne...... in my humble opinion if the what is of "family value" then search out a local watchmaker for a estimate .... Good Hunting Bill Sohne
