Amanico's post highlights the distinctive aesthetic of vintage railroad wristwatches from the late 1950s and early 1960s, a design born from a critical need for legibility and precision. He showcases examples from Universal Genève, Omega, Longines, and Girard Perregaux, noting their shared characteristics. This article explores the historical context and unique appeal of these timepieces, which remain a fascinating segment of horological history.
What were the origins of this type of watch, what is their purpose, if any?
I\'d also be curious to hear how they evolved.
...that is a good idea I imagine :P But who started them in this trend and why did they evolve in this particular fashion? Pilot\'s watches were also offered in the same era and also had great legibility, which I assume was an important factor.
You will see the same design. Best, Nicolas
