(edit: wow. I need to clean that bracelet)

About the Croton Chronomaster

Croton's Chronomaster series emerged during the brand's resurgence in the contemporary watch market, drawing from the company's mid-20th century chronograph heritage. While Croton built its reputation on affordable Swiss-made timepieces in earlier decades, the modern Chronomaster reflects the brand's attempt to recapture relevance in an increasingly crowded field. The tonneau case shape and integrated bracelet design language clearly references the sports chronographs of the 1970s, positioning this piece within the broader vintage-inspired revival movement.

The asymmetrical case construction accommodates what appears to be a standard quartz chronograph movement, with the characteristic 2-6-10 subdial configuration visible on the deep blue dial. The applied rectangular hour markers and contrasting white chronograph hands demonstrate functional legibility over decorative flourishes. The integrated bracelet construction, while echoing premium Swiss designs, reflects the cost-conscious manufacturing approach typical of contemporary Croton production.

In the current market, pieces like this Chronomaster occupy the entry-level chronograph segment, appealing primarily to casual collectors seeking vintage aesthetics without corresponding vintage prices. The model represents accessible horology rather than investment-grade collecting, with values likely remaining stable rather than appreciating. For enthusiasts of 1970s chronograph design who prioritize wearability over provenance, contemporary Croton offerings provide an alternative to increasingly expensive vintage examples from more established manufactures.

It satisfied a enduring urge to have a chronograph and here was one I could afford. It sports a cam-actuated Valjoux 7733 in this lovely stainless pillow case. I bought it on a black leather sport band but soon changed it for the ss bracelet that it is on currently. It has a very clean dial that holds up pretty well under high magnification...the indicies are slightly inconsistent. Its manual wind so there is that aspect of daily interaction that I quite enjoy about it. 17 jewels, bi-compax, 180
