In a refreshing take on year-end roundups, jlux, a seasoned collector, shares his personal acquisitions from the 2024 new releases. This article delves into the specific models that resonated with his collecting philosophy, highlighting pieces that prioritize wearability, design, and horological value over sheer complication or exorbitant pricing. His selections offer a unique perspective on what truly captivates a collector in a year of diverse releases.

Some of the new watch releases from this year caught my attention in a way that they are now part of my collection.
Nothing super fancy or highly complicated ...or outrageously priced, but just well made watches that spoke to me.

1. The dive watches that finally got their size right :

Longines Legend Diver with the 39mm case.

Tudor Black Bay "monochromatic" with the slimmer case profile.

And finally a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms with the perfect (42.5 mm) case size.

2. The "French Connection" : my first French made watches in the collection.

Yema Navygraf Slim with its interesting micro-rotor movement.

And the sparkling Pequignet Royal Paris with a spectacular aventurine dial.

3. Small is beautiful ....or,good watch design is priceless!

The 38 mm Nomos Tangente "Zirkus" : a present from my family !!!

The stunning echo/neutra Rivanera : my choice for best watch design in 2024.

4. Overall my personal favorite for 2024 :

The beautiful Chopard LUC XPS "Forest green".

That's all folks ...and now on to 2025 !!

Best wishes,
Gerard

Btw very nice pics, did you made them? How comes that there are no light reflections on the watches? Amazing!!!

With my photo set-up I definitely try to avoid (or control) any unwanted reflections.

If you don’t mind me asking, what made the Chopard the winner? Any thoughts on the FF? I’m particularly interested in your thoughts because so much of your 2024 purchases lined up with watches I had felt something for myself.

The proportions are great for my wrist and the movement is a real piece of high horology. The overall package really did it for me and I also feel that this is the best value high horology watch of the year ! And I believe that it is just good looking !! As for the BP, I always wanted to have a FF in my (heavy diver inspired) collection. The new 42.5 mm case is for me the perfect size for this watch and the use of a brushed Ti case was another plus.
