2015 is a very big year for Zenith, the first fully integrated manufacture, to celebrate its 150th anniversary

Back in 1865, George Favre-Jacot has endeavoured into what was set to become the key to success for the Swiss matchmaking industry: vertical and horizontal integration, fostering innovation, precision and creativity.

Thus, we are here today to celebrate together with our friends at the manufacture the 150th year of existence of one Switzerland's most respected chronograph specialist.

Zenith put all those ingredients together for a mix full of tension and anticipation:

- first of all, introduction of the new CEO, Aldo Magada
- second, presentation of a new anniversary book on Zenith for all us aficionados
- third, new partnerships and adventures to come
- fourth, from the glimpse of the CEO's wrist - a new movement (and I am sure you all love that) called Elite!

Fresh from the camera, here are my impressions!

Thanks for reading,
Magnus

P.S.: I have not seen the new collection yet, and what has transpired so far is only the tip of an iceberg, my little bird told me ;-)) Stay tuned!

Totally cramped with journalists and friends of the brand, Zenith opened its new booth, decorated in the typical stylish Zenith way, appealing but not too much - elegance instead of abundance, just to my taste! Totally obvious what Basel 2015 is all about for Zenith... Red carpet, ok, they knew I was coming... Connoisseurs rejoice on the logo to the left, but this was left for later (for a good reason!): Getting closer to the birthday boy (or girl or, in PC speak, person ?)... All ready, prepare

After joking with us in the back, LVMH's director of watch division , Jean-Claude Biver , stepped up the podium and 'officially' welcomed Aldo Magada as new President and CEO of Zenith : Now, introducing Aldo Magada, praising him as a successful horologist (manager)... ... so much that Mr Magada seems to think a second about how to lift this weight loaded on his shoulders... But with this primary recipe for success: do what you love and love what you are doing, Aldo! - nothing can happen! All th

Such is the odyssey recounted in the anniversary book previewed at the press conference: Written by Joël Duval , a passionate watch collector, this livre-objet , which comes in a luxury case, tells the story of the Manufacture in 400 pages and 650 illustration s, most of which have never been seen before. Mr Duval presented the book himself... A tremendous effort I am really eager to examine. It took altogether three CEOs to complete it (Nataf, Dufour and Magada)... Mr. Duval's pride and feeling

Zenith has announced extension of existing partnerships and addition of novel ones, in sports, racing and humanitarian relief: (left to right: Éric Abidal, Felix Baumgartner, Aldo Magada and Erik Comas) 1.) Felix Baumgartner: Let's not forget that, when Felix Baumgartner leapt from the stratospher e, reaching a speed of 1357.6 km/h and becoming the first man to exceed the speed of sound in free-fall, he did so while wearing the El Primero Stratos Flyback Striking 10th chronograph. Setting a numb

I guess this is what you all were waiting for - a strong commitment to the Elite movement (which incidentally was the first movement ever to be constructed using CAD): the new Zenith Cal. Elite 6150 : Key features: - lasting long: 100h power reserve; 2 barrels - contemporary size: 13¼``` (diameter: 30 mm) - really flat: 3.92 mm - frequency: 28,800 VpH (4 Hz) - direct central second system (providing increased range, accuracy and reliability) - 195 components - built-in flexibility to host a vari

Following the presentation, tightly packed: The other side of the moon... What did I say? Following, the smart way ;-) Making sure to remember .... (or preparing for own anniversary?) Cognac tasting for the connoisseurs - courtesy of sister brand Hennessy : Two minds thinking the same: Certainly, not a solitary indulgence! It takes the strength of a real woman - for both (in German we have a term "die Waffen einer Frau", used in the sense of charming or seducing men with typically female tricks.
