Friends,

You all know this year is the 70 th anniversary of the original 1945! We already saw the Anniversary models from BaselWorld…

As I stated in my previous post about the Le Corbusier Trilogy, due to this celebration I will go back and revisit some of the Vintage 1945 models we have seen from the Manufacture over the years.

Back in 2012, Girard-Perregaux made a trilogy homage to one of their hometown sons: Charles-Edouard Jeanneret – Le Corbusier.

In this part 2 we have come to the city of light, the city of love. Paris!

It was here he took his artist name Le Corbusier, it was here he became a well-known profile within the “Modernism” culture movement. Le Corbusier expressed it, both in his paintings and in his architecture, focusing on elemental geometric forms — “space and light and order,” as he put it.

In 1929, along with his cousin Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand, Le Corbusier debuted Le Grand Confort at Paris’s Salon d’Automne. Among the pieces shown was his iconic furniture, constructed from a then-unique combination of steel, tanned leather and rawhide.

This theme was used as inspiration when GP created the Paris Vintage 1945!

Steel, the dial is made of “naked” steel.

Engraved with Le Corbusier’s Modulor system of architectural proportion, based on the male figure (human scale) and the “Golden Ratio,” as well as his applied perception of light.

And to complete the homage; tanned leather and rawhide.

I find this watch superb! The choice of material, the dial decoration and I am quite certain that the man himself would have approved the Art Deco case!

Not sure if this is my favorite one of the trilogy or if it is the next piece – Marseille!

Marseille, which will our next stop and the last piece in this trilogy!

I was never able to know which one I preferred between the Paris and the Marseille. Both are really stunning. The strap on this Paris is really something, though... I have the shoes to match it! ;) Best, Nicolas

My favourite of the three absolutely love the strap even I don't have matching shoes. Now, I know we should not always nitpick on small details, but I can't help it. There is one little detail I don't like. The inside the crystal painted brand-name. The same we can see on the cham...

I find the logo on the crystal brilliant! Especially on pieces like the Chambers of Wonders, not to ruin the artwork! But, yes - the logo could have been in a less contrasting color... So, time for you to find matching shoes, my friend?! ;) Best Blomman

Friends, It is my great pleasure to present to you the third part of this “Vintage GP journey, Summer Edition”. For those of you who don’t know the reference GP 8846 N, the number refers to the first generation of Girard-Perregaux Olimpico chronograph. According to my contact at the Manufacture, the idea for the Olimpico chronograph came from one of the GP Agents in Mexico at that time, Guido de Angelis, who saw an opportunity to sell more watches during the 1968 Mexico Olympic Games. From a watch perspective ...
