BaselWorld 2015 - Antoine Preziuso

AHCI member Antoine Preziuso first annunced a triple tourbillon about 10 years ago.  It worked, but wasn't reliable.  Now together with his son Florian, watchmaker and designer, they have announced a new, redeveloped triple tourbillon.  A newly designed differential mechanism supplies each tourbillon with the energy it needs for reliable operation.  This version of the triple troubillon is also much more wearable than the original.  With the hands moved from an offset dial to the middle the size is large, but wearable.  As with the original, the 3 tourbillons are on a rotating platform.  Through this common movement the 3 tourbillons can easily come to resonance.  The whole is quite a show, the 3 tourbillons in lock-step rotating around the dial.

Technically very interesting... Don, Thanks for posting this; it's nice to hear about what the independents are up to. Here's the inner monologue that I heard as I read it... "Gosh, that's interesting. A triple tourby, with a differential, so that the three spinning thingummies which ar...

I really LIKE it !! This one goes all the way ... He was once quoted as saying, "I make jewelry for men." Others may claim that they make "wearable art" or whatever, according to their own artistry and creative ingenuity. In this instance, the HANDS are what do it for me! Af...

How do you decide the weight of each tourbillion's error in... Connecting them? Or are the errors assumed to average out?

I see 2 possibilities... either the tourbi's are in resonance, then they are synchronous, there is nothing to average, or they average through the differential. It would be interesting to know how the set the timing of each of the tourbi's. Don

Amazing to watch this piece in action... Here is a link to the Preziuso watch in action... in fast motion of course.

Fascinating - makes we want to set the time ever again!

Rudis Sylva Oscillateur Harmonieux - the instantly compensating 'tourbillon'

Recent years have brought about a great deal of novel engineering tools and with them an abundance of watchmaking novelties. Multi-axis tourbillons anyone? Crazy constructions - no limits? It seems to me that many of those world firsts and revolutions somehow went into oblivion… Often it parers to me that the novelty factor was worn out faster than the makers could think. Few however persevered the stormy post-2008 years, and I'd like to report on one of those fascinating constructions: The Rudis Sylva Oscillateur ... .
